No. I see others like her writing but i just don't get her approach. I could not get involved with all of the cliches and repetitious language.
He may be ok with other material but I am not going to seek him out.
I have read a lot of interesting history books and this was not one of them. Not an issue with the author or reader. It was old Daniel himself who was the problem. Here is the bottom line.. He was a frontier back woodsman who was a very good hunter and blazed trails where others had gone before. He sired lots of kids and left his wife for months and years at time to go hunting and trapping.. There is some lore here and there and that's it. Most of the narrative is simply mundane. I am sure he thought he led a interesting life but to hear about it was not that interesting. He did have a good publicist though. Someone wrote about his exploits and he became popular, not here, but in England. Others picked up on it and more and more tall tales were told, some by him. And that's it!!
This is just a superb book. The narration and structure of the story were just terrific. I would recommend to anyone who has an interest in early 19th century American history..
Listen to about 5 hours and it stopped. Not further audio available. The file was 17 hours long, which is twice as long as audible sections. It should be in multiple parts. Got a credit for this, however I would like to see the book download fixed so I could finish it.
I slogged through this monstrosity of a sloppily written book until the disappointing ending. King writes for himself, not the reader. He ruined what could have been a good premise. Multiple events don't move the plot forward. He is definitely does not write a "tight" plot. King has not gotten into the internet age and the ease of communications and therefore the plot is just not plausible This is a long and boring book. The reader was just plain annoying. It is my first and last Stephen King book.
This was a very poor effort, fill with banalities and cliches. It was a crashing bore. The reader was particularly annoying. I certainly will never listen to a book from him again.
What a story teller. The transposition between the old man and the story of his youth in the circus was just perfect.
I recommend this to anyone who loves good story telling.
I am in a third of the way into this and am about to give up. I have just not gotten into the characters and all of the background history. Keeping the characters straight is difficult. There is almost no dialog and the plot is very slow paced.
Reader is excellent. She almost acts out the story. Compelling story that kept my interest throughout.
