Winston Churchill is perhaps the most important political figure of the 20th century. His great oratory and leadership during the Second World War were only part of his huge breadth of experience and achievement. Studying his life is a fascinating way to imbibe the history of his era and gain insight into key events that have shaped our time.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, W.S. Churchill is revealed in a level of detail that I never expected. His brilliance and his vulnerabilities are all brought to life.

Would you recommend The Last Lion to your friends? Why or why not?

To some. The book has so much information and detail, that it would be easy to get bogged down. Listening help push through some of the dry parts.

Have you listened to any of Frederick Davidson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

The story in to itself is captivating. the writing of the story is good, but not great. Often is is a jarring list of horrendous facts and little more.

What made the experience of listening to The Count of Monte Cristo the most enjoyable?

This was a treat from beginning to end! Having only been exposed to the film adaptations of this book, the rich detail and twisted web of deceit and revenge have never been revealed to me before. Fantastic!

    Which scene was your favorite?

The return of the Le Pharaon to Monsieur Morrel.
