The gigantic comet had slammed into Earth, forging earthquakes a thousand times too powerful to measure on the Richter scale, tidal waves thousands of feet high. Cities were turned into oceans; oceans turned into steam. It was the beginning of a new Ice Age and the end of civilization. But for the terrified men and women chance had saved, it was also the dawn of a new struggle for survival--a struggle more dangerous and challenging than any they had ever known....

It’s the near future, and thanks to a perfect storm of reckless banking practices, hyperinflation, a stock market gone mad, and the negligence of our elected officials, the entire social, political, and economic infrastructure of America has collapsed. Chaos reigns in the streets, medical treatment is no longer available, and a silent coup has placed a dangerous group of men at the helm of a false government. America’s fate is in the hands of those few individuals who have the survival skills, the faith, and the forethought to return this country to the state its founding fathers intended.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

First let me say the other Rawles books are very good. This one was BAD. You would have to be a born again Christian to really enjoy this one.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Lucifer's Hammer then Jakarta Pandemic

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I know Rawles is better than this and he will write another one. When he does, I hope he leaves the religion to a minimum. I realize there probably is an advantage in a survival situation if you are tied into a religoius group, but not all survivors would be religious. At least I hope.

Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

I found this book to be a very good description of what could happen and how to deal with it if it does.
