On Manhattan’s Upper East Side, a woman lies dead at the bottom of a brownstone’s basement steps, stripped of all her valuables. Most cops might call it a mugging gone wrong, but Lieutenant Eve Dallas knows better. A well-off accountant and a beloved wife and mother, Marta Dickenson doesn’t seem the type to be on anyone’s hit list. But when Eve and her partner, Peabody, find blood inside the brownstone, she knows Marta’s murder is the work of a killer who’s trained, yet not professional or smart enough to remove all the evidence.

All her life, Grace Ryan was the "fat girl". Taunted and teased and ignored by her peers, she tried every diet ever invented to no avail. Desperate to change her life as her 20s slipped away, she decided it was time for drastic measures and had lap-band surgery. More than a year later, she's lost 130 pounds and is venturing into the dating world for the first time. During a boat trip to Gansett Island with the new guy in her life, Grace refuses to have sex with him and finds herself abandoned without a dollar to her name at McCarthy's Gansett Island Marina.

Would you try another book from Marie Force and/or Holly Fielding?

I enjoy the books by Marie Force including the Green Mountain and Fatal series. I do not care for the narrator, Holly Fielding. I prefer a performance not a dry reading of words.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Grace plus Linda & Big Mac

Would you be willing to try another one of Holly Fielding’s performances?

Only so I can complete this series. I love to discover new series and typically read one book after the other. With this series I have to take breaks and listen to other narrators.

Since he won the Academy Award for best original screenplay a few years ago, Grant McCarthy's personal and professional lives have fallen apart. Abby, the woman he was supposed to marry, is engaged to someone else, and Grant is back at home on Gansett Island helping to run the family marina business while his father recovers from a serious injury. While all Grant's focus should be on winning back the love of his life, pesky Stephanie, who runs the marina restaurant, is working her way under his skin and into his bed. As Tropical Storm Hailey cuts off Gansett Island from the mainland, Grant suspects Stephanie is hiding something .

What made the experience of listening to Falling for Love the most enjoyable?

Stephanie - her story is heart breaking as well as heart warming.

Would you be willing to try another one of Holly Fielding’s performances?

Only with a series. The reader lacks emotion and energy.

What did you love best about Tempting Fate?

The ongoing characters in the family MacGregor

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tempting Fate?

Being snowed in and stuck in a hotel that typically rents rooms by the hour

Did Angela Dawe do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes. She lowered her voice for the male characters, added a brogue for Daniel. She softened her voice for Anna and raised it for Rena.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    No. Nice simple romance.

    Any additional comments?

This series holds up 30 yrs after first publication. The characters smoking cigarettes dates the series but other than that it could be written today.

What did you love best about Playing the Odds?

I loved the introduction to the MacGregor family. I read this many years ago and wanted to hear it with the characters performed. I look forward to to other books in the series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Playing the Odds?

When Blade discovered that Daniel had set him up with the cruise.

Did Angela Dawe do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes. She did a passible job with the male voices and accents. There is something about her inflections that I don't really care for at the end of sentences but while she is not my favorite narrator she is far superior to others.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

For four of the best summers of his young life, Luke Harris was in love with Sydney Donovan, a wealthy seasonal visitor to Gansett Island. Then Sydney went off to college and never came back. She married another man and had two children while Luke remained on the island, working at McCarthy's Gansett Marina and wondering what had gone wrong between him and the only woman he ever loved. Fifteen months after Sydney suffers the tragic loss of her husband and children, she's returned to Gansett to figure out what's next, and that may very well be a rekindled love affair with the one man from her past she’s never forgotten.

What did you like best about Ready for Love? What did you like least?

I enjoyed Luke and Sydney's history and present. It also was entertaining getting updates on the other characters. I do not care for the narrator who reads instead of performing the story. Monotone delivery.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ready for Love?

When Big Mac & Luke were injured.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Flat delivery. No real difference in characters.

At the same time, Janey has been dating or engaged to doctor-in-training David Lawrence. When things go horribly wrong between David and Janey, she calls her "fifth brother" Joe, one of the few people in her close circle who lives on the mainland. What made the experience of listening to Fool for Love the most enjoyable?

I love a love story and a series that allows you to get to know a number of the characters.

What did you like best about this story?

The challenges and events the main characters dealt with and updates on other characters.

What didn’t you like about Holly Fielding’s performance?

Lacks emotion and she does not differentiate the characters. She simply reads aloud. A disaster might be happening but you wouldn't know from the narrators voice.

If you could rename Fool for Love, what would you call it?

    I wouldn't rename.

    Any additional comments?

It is the story spun by Marie Force that brings me back to the series. I do wish she would choose a different narrator.

Maddie Chester is determined to leave her hometown of Gansett Island, a place that has brought her only bad memories and ugly rumors. Then she’s knocked off her bike on the way to her housekeeping job at McCarthy’s Resort Hotel by Gansett’s "favorite son", Mac McCarthy. Would you consider the audio edition of Maid for Love to be better than the print version?

On the fence about this. I rarely read print books any more since I can "read" an audiobook while exercising, driving or relaxing. I did not care for the narrator who put no emotion or performance in her execution nor she differentiate the characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Both Maddy and Mac

How could the performance have been better?

    Different narrator

If you could take any character from Maid for Love out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Big Mac. He came across as such a kind, loving person.

    Any additional comments?

I love series and will listen to more in this one but I wish there was a different narrator.
