  • Notorious Pleasures: Maiden Lane, Book 2

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 23 mins)
    • By Elizabeth Hoyt
    • Narrated By Ashford McNab
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Lady Hero Batten, the beautiful sister of the Duke of Wakefield, has everything a woman could want, including the perfect fiancé. True, the Marquis of Mandeville is a trifle dull and has no sense of humor, but that doesn't bother Hero... until she meets his notorious brother.

Katheryne says: "Another credit worthy listen!"
"Story and narrator are perfect together"

Both story and narrator are perfect together. I have been enjoying Elizabeth Hoyt's books for awhile.
It seems in her latest books, more and more chapters are designated for steamy sex. Not that that is bad but the story is good and sometimes I find myself flipping over the sex to get back to the actual story, hope that makes sense. And if you have kids, you can't or shouldn't use the speakers on the kindle or tablet. I use my Bluetooth headset.

With the Audible editions done by Ashford Macnab, I can only say that they are really good. There are really great books out there that are reduced to tears with the wrong narrator. So far, Macnab has done an excellent job of every book she has read. I hope she sticks with this series.

I found Macnab's pseudonym is Polly Lee. So, needless to say, I found some more good books.

  • Her Sudden Groom: Groom Series, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 29 mins)
    • By Rose Gordon
    • Narrated By B. F. Laskar
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The overly scientific, always respectable, and socially awkward Alexander Banks has just been informed his name resides on a betrothal agreement right above the name of the worst chit in all of England. With a loophole that allows him to marry another without consequence before the thirtieth anniversary of his birth, Alex has only four weeks to find another woman and make her his wife. Being the logical scientist he is, Alex decides to take his friend's advice and treat his quest for a bride just like a science experiment...

Kimberly says: "Story good - narrator was not."
    "It's a bird"

It's a plane! NO! It's B F Lasker . The narrator Hurts the enjoyment of this book. This is the first time I have ever set the speed down and it was still too fast. She is just reading from the book as fast as she can. Horrible.

  • Soulless: An Alexia Tarabotti Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 52 mins)
    • By Gail Carriger
    • Narrated By Emily Gray
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Victorian romance mixes seamlessly with elegant prose and biting wit—and werewolves—in Gail Carriger’s delightful debut novel. Soulless introduces Alexia Tarabotti, a parasol-wielding Londoner getting dangerously close to spinster status. But there are more important things than finding a husband. For Alexia was born without a soul, giving her the ability to render any vampire or werewolf completely powerless.

Pamela I Greene says: "Amelia Peabody has competition"
    "My first foray into SteamPunk"
If you could sum up Soulless in three words, what would they be?

    Interesting, Different and Funny

What did you like best about this story?

The characters were so very funny. The whole idea of steampunk was new to me and so very enjoyable

Did Emily Gray do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes, I believe she did differentiate the characters BUT the pauses between the paragraghs an chapters DROVE ME CRAZY! I thought my mp3 player was broken. I really think this can be easily fixed by whoever records the book.I am now on the 3rd book and because of the great pauses I am losing interest. Well, maybe not losing interest in the book just in the audio book. In fact, I believe I read over half of the first book and most of the second.Ms Gray is a slow reader too, which I can handle but not those durn pauses!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If it were not for the great pauses ( and I even turned up the speed) I probably could have listened to the book in a sitting. You could shave at least an hour off of each book.

You CANNOT listen to this in the car if you are driving, you'll have time to fall asleep while waiting for the next part of the book to be read.

    Any additional comments?

Before I buy any more of this readers book I will check out for LONNNG Pauussesss.

I really think this pause thing is a problem with the recording people.
