As a child, Morgan Edwards marveled at the faery tales spun by her beloved grandmother, stories of the magical beings hidden in the heart of ancient Wales. But now Morgan is all grown up, a veterinarian who believes only in what science can prove - until the night a massive black dog saves her from a vicious attack. Suddenly a stranger stands before her, the man of her dreams made flesh and blood, not by science, but by a magic that could bring them their hearts’ desires...or cost them everything they have.

I think this would have made a much better short story, it just kind of limped along, after the intro with Morgan in Whales and spotting Rhys as the "Grimm" and then seeing him again when she returns home, the beginning was good and engaging but then it just kind of limps along...there was a bit of action with the slaying of a monster.....then Morgan being and idiot.....then a bit more with the introduction of Ranyon...more of Morgan being a closed minded idiot and more of same, and the only "big event" to happen was at the end.

I know it sounds like I did not like it, I did enjoy it but I spent the entire time listening just waiting for something to happen. I think a lot of Morgan's disbelief and some of the "every day" type stuff could have been minimized and with a shorter story it would have flowed better.

So I think I would actually give this 3.5 stars but not the kind of 1/2 that I would round up to four.

In exchange for help escaping her long and wrongful imprisonment, embittered magical healer Blackthorn has vowed to set aside her bid for vengeance against the man who destroyed all that she once held dear. Followed by a former prison mate, a silent hulk of a man named Grim, she travels north to Dalriada. There she'll live on the fringe of a mysterious forest, duty bound for seven years to assist anyone who asks for her help. Oran, crown prince of Dalriada, has waited anxiously for the arrival of his future bride, Lady Flidais.

I have to start with the narration, usually one of my pet peeves is the alternating narration from POV’s (mostly with dual narration), I've ranted about it before, but this time with three narrators and maybe because it is three points of view’s instead of just two…it worked for me. All three narrators did a fabulous job, even though we had to recall three sets of voices for each of the characters they were still very distinct and you knew which character was speaking regardless of who was narrating. At the moment, the best thing about this book is the narration, and even that is not enough, I may DNF this with only about 4 hours left…….argh, very frustrating

I made it another hour and am just disgusted with Blackthorn…..I had figured out early on the problem with Lady Flidais. While initially the story pulled me in I found myself getting board before I was 50% through. The book is well written but for me just way to wordy. There were a lot of details and descriptions that I could have done without and I found it quite frustrating to have so much foreshadowing to get to the freaking point….I listened for almost 13 hours before Blackthorn and Grim were asked to investigate. If the rest of the story had been more engaging it would have helped, I kept waiting for something to happen. I listened to 14 ½ hours and while the issue that made me hit “pause” on the play most likely resolves itself, all I can say is that Blackthorn’s reaction at this point just did me in, she should really know better….it has been over a week since I hit pause and I just can’t bring myself to hit the play button again…..I may finish those final three hours someday….but not today.

So for me the best thing about this book is the narration, as I said above, all three did a fabulous job. Narration is a full 5 stars. The Book for me is really only about 1½ to 2 Stars.

Three lovers who stalk and kill the immortals that drift through South Florida (tourists are a moveable feast, after all) are living a simple life of leisure- until one of them is nearly killed by a woman who is a new kind of lethal. When Ring Hardigan isn't making sandwiches for, and with, his two partners, Waleska and Risa (they're cool like that), he's got a busy schedule doing the dirty work of sending immortals to the ever after.

3.5 Stars - Audio provided by author for an honest review

This one is not easy to review. Initially I did not care for the narration but the voice grew on me. I really liked the take on “immortals” and I thought the story was well told. I think what makes this difficult for me to review is while it was a well told story, it took me over two weeks to finish the audio. For me the story was a bit slow, it was not an “I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens” listen.. I really liked Risa and Wally….Ring had his moments but I did not really care for him as a character.

So all in all not bad, but it will be a bit before I try the next book in the series.

The rating on this one is hard for me, do I rate based on how the story was with narration or do I rate on the story itself…the hard part is, as an audio book the narration has a big impact on the telling of the story and while the narrator was not bad….there was something missing. I thought she did great with the actual dialogue, however on the narration between dialogue (not sure what to call it) it was almost to fast. I kept thinking take a breath and slow down. I think the other hard part for me was I did not feel the narrators connection to the story…..she did not become the characters for me. To me, the best audio books are the ones where the narrators really become the characters, they are not just reading you the story, they bring the story to life…..I’m not sure how else to explain it….but that is what was missing from the narration for me.

The story itself, a friends to lovers, was very sweet. I think this is one that I would have enjoyed more reading instead of listening. My one complaint would be that they waited so long to actually talk to each other about feelings….but then I guess we would not have the story…anyways that is just one of my “pet peeves” in romance books, I usually just look at my kindle or car stereo and think (or in some cases talk out loud) “Dude, just freaking talk to each other and quite wasting time”.

So, I think all in all a 3.5 that I’ll round up to 4 stars and would rate the story as written 4 Stars but the narration would be 3 stars

The Gamble is one of my favorites, and after the narration on the Dream Man series I was kinda worried if the audio was going to be any good on this. As it turns out, they found someone who could pull off Nina's "slight" English accent and switch to non accented voices without a hitch....Max's voice seemed a bit awkward to me at first but in the end I was happy with it.

I can't wait for Sweet Dreams, there is a roughly 45 min excerpt for Sweet Dreams at the end that just leaves you wanting more. Now we just need the Ghosts and Reincarnation series to be released in audio.

Both are good stories and the narration is excellent

I'm undecided on this book, I'm not sure if it was the story or the narration that has me undecided...

Alice Chapman did a very good job in reading the story, maybe it was the southern accent...I am no expert but it seemed off....maybe harder when it should be softer....I used to work with a woman from Tennessee and I remember the drawl being a bit softer....

While I did like this one, I had actually read the 3rd book first and enjoyed it more than this one. There was great chemistry with Derrick and Ginger and I really liked both characters, until the end where Ginger momentarily turned into the TSTL girl....if I could give 1/2 stars this would be a solid 3.5 star listen

This was good, an interesting take on vampires and werewolves. I think what kept this from a solid 4 stars is that Zoe while likable bugged me a bit, I can't quite pinpoint if it was how she was written or how she sounded with the narration, this is not a complaint about the narration Kate Rudd did a wonderful job.

I liked the mythology and archaeology in this one, I found this part of it very interesting. While this did not have a "cliffhanger" ending, it does leave a lot of unanswered questions and no book two available to answer those questions...which is a bit frustrating cause book 2 is not out until March....

The narration was well done, lots of action, chemistry and a bit of suspense which makes for an excellent read...or listen.
