A disease of unparalleled destructive force has sprung up almost simultaneously in every corner of the globe, all but destroying the human race. One survivor, strangely immune to the effects of the epidemic, ventures forward to experience a world without man. What he ultimately discovers will prove far more astonishing than anything he'd either dreaded or hoped for.

    Story

Sorry, I know this is suppose to be a 'classic'. It was classically boring to the nth degree. I even skipped about and nothing ever really changes. Let me sum it up for you. Plague, a few people find one another, plant plants, plant more plants, watch the ants and rats die out, have kids, scribble on a rock for 20 years, the end.

If you want to listen to a really great book, get One Second After. Blows this dull piece away.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - the story keeps you engaged. You care about the characters and there are several sub-stories in the mix. It's more of a survivalist story vs.zombie battle book. Which was interesting and something new. Definitely recommend.

What did you like best about this story?

    It sets up another book.

What does R. C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He's a good narrator. You focus on the book and not the narrator.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I don't want to give away any spoilers.

    Any additional comments?

If you like zombie apocalypse books, give this a read. Somewhat like reading DBD Armageddon...but that book is hard to top.

It’s their job to overturn this devastating new world order.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Only if you read the other two books. I lost interest after the 100th vampire battle in this book. Was good up until about half way...then drags on. So tired of hearing about the kids vamp mom, his issues with dad, and so on.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The story was dull and slow compared to the first two books.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    I honestly can't remember.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

If part of the trilogy, then yes.

    Any additional comments?

Books 1 and 2 much more engaging than this book.

If you could sum up We’re Alive in three words, what would they be?

    Unique audio drama

Who was your favorite character and why?

Michael because he's the leader and full of flaws yet keeps giving it his all

Which character – as performed by Blackstone Audiobooks – was your favorite?

    Sal because he's a bad a$$

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The audio drama recording is unique - many different voices you recognize along with special effects/sounds. Plus, story line is great.

    Any additional comments?

A great story - one of the best zombie series. If you like DBD Armageddon, The Road, The Passage, The Strain...etc then you'll definitely like this audio story!

In a steel-and-lead-encased bunker 20 feet below the basement level of his house, a soldier waits for his final orders. On the surface, a plague ravages the planet, infecting over 90% of the populace. The bacterium burrows through the brain, destroying all signs of humanity and leaving behind little more than base, prehistoric instincts. The infected turn into hyper-aggressive predators, with an insatiable desire to kill and feed. Someday soon, the soldier will have to open the hatch to his bunker, and step out into this new wasteland, to complete his mission....

Would you try another book from D. J. Molles and/or Christian Rummel?

    No

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

It was dull and predictable. Kids are ok in stories but Sam really is a bugger and ruins the flow/story.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Overall has decent characters and a good stage was set...just no execution.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Maybe, since they'd change it all about. Again, ok premise just not the best story execution.

    Any additional comments?

This is NOT a Day by Day Armageddon type book as several described - it's "ok" but [to me] does not pull you in. I could care less about the characters...actually, thought all but main character was a distraction. I've listened to a bunch of zombie/end of world books. This is at best in the lower-middle. Disappointing since there are other chapters to read but I'll stop at the first.

If you want a VERY GOOD read/listen go check out "We’re Alive" by Wayland (for some reason hard to find on Audible search. It's an audio drama (multiple voices, special effects, etc). A terrific story and you care about the characters. This is also available via Podcast for free but you'll need to download 50+ files from the past few seasons. Best to get caught up via Audible and listen to final season Podcasts (they are weekly).

    Other notable good reads:
The Passage Trilogy by Cronin; Swan Song; Day By Day Armageddon books 1 & 2; Strain Trilogy by Del Toro; Wool; Patient Zero by Maberry; and The Road by McCarthy

    Cheers!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I like the Preston/Child combo - would still put Relic and a few others (i.e., the Pendergast series) much ahead of this story. It's ok - pretty slow and a not too all exciting experience overall. Reader is fine - if the story was an hour vs 8 hours I'd give it 5 starts.

What could Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

More action, more creative, less flashbacks which have no bearing on the story...

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

    Reader did a good job

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Maybe a made for TV movie

    Any additional comments?

Read the Pendergast books before this one...they are much better.

A scientific experiment begins, and as the button is pressed, the unexpected occurs: everyone in the world goes to sleep for a few moments while everyone's consciousness is catapulted more than twenty years into the future. At the end of those moments, when the world reawakens, all human life is transformed by foreknowledge.

    Story

While I thought this would be 'similar' to the TV Show, be forewarned that this story is very different. While usually the book is better than the show (take any Stephen King or Dean Koontz book as an example), the TV folk took an idea (by Robert Sawyer) and made it much, much better. Not to give any spoils here - this book is a flash forward 20 years (not 3) into the future and 85% is about Theo trying to solve his murder. Ok, see what's wrong here...3 years is somewhat imminent whereas 20 years who really cares. No FBI, no bad guys, no nothing but Lloyd, his fiance and Theo. Too bad there is not more here as I really enjoyed the TV Show with its many different plot lines - not much here other than a good idea (the flash forward) that someone else took and made much better. Save your credits for something else...

Ordinary, that is, until the dead start coming back to life, with the intent to feast upon the living! Now this small town of above average citizens must overcome their petty rivalries and hidden secrets in order to survive an onslaught of the dead.

Then this is the one for you. Honestly, I tried for about an hour and could not get past the narrator...his yokle-dokle accent and simple 5th grade English does not do it for me. Boring, simple, and hard to get involved... There are many other great zombie books out there...save your credit, I want mine back! Try Day by Day Armageddon I and II or The Passage for an epic adventure you won't regret (sort of a vamp/zombie tale). Cheers!

First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.

    Story

Not your typical vampire or zombie book, but very good nevertheless. A few reviewers complained about the transition 100 years later in the middle of the book. Did not phase me, actually I think the 2nd half is better than the first (actually more like 2/3 is in future). This is a pretty deep book and written very well. If you have read zombie/vamp/apocalypse book I would rate as this: deep writing similar to the Road (not as deep), good story but not quite as 'fun' as Day-by-Day Armageddon, so all-in-all a good solid read. Actually, a bit better than good. The Strain is another great vamp novel. 13 Bullets I did not like due to the focus on femininity and the reader was bad. So here you have it...give The Passage a read if you are a fan of DBD Armageddon, The Strain, The Road, or even 13 Bullets. Same would apply to World War Z and the other zombie books. The Passage certainly holds it own. A mix of the aforementioned books and a little of The Stand (not too much). So go buy/rent and enjoy! You will not be disappointed. I give it 4 1/2 starts, but rounded up so that others will not miss this great story.
