This series reminds me of The Sword of Truth series, only more formulaic and without the unrequited love. It's not a bad series, but its not great either. If you're looking for sword and sorcery and all that goes with it, then this will do. The narrator is marginal, but if you listen at 1.25 then he's not that bad.

The small country of Medalon lies between the vast nation of Karien in the north and the nations of Fardohnya and Hythria in the south. For centuries the Medalonians co-existed peacefully with the Harshini, a magical race that abhors killing. But now they are gone and in their place the Sisters of the Blade rule Medalon from the Citadel. An elite army of Defenders enforces the Sisterhood's oppressive rule. The Harshini and their demons are believed to be extinct and Medalon has an uneasy peace with its northern and southern neighbours.

I really liked this series all in all. I'm a Jennifer Fallon fan now. Book 1 and 3 are the best. At times I thought it reminded me of several high fantasy books (insert best sellers here) , almost to the point of plagerism, but it did have some definitely original ideas and a well thought out magic system. Sometimes the heroine is just a little too stupid and you want to tell her not to do something, but she does; however it didn't make me want to stop listening. The narration was excellent. I hope to listen to listen to her naration again some day

Medalon has surrendered to foreign invaders, Tarja is once more an outcast, the Defenders have scattered…and their only hope is Damin Wolfblade. But Damin has his own problems - the High Prince is dead, so Damin must lift the siege on the Hythrun capital and defeat a usurper before he can come to Medalon's aid. For R'shiel, time is running out. She must find a way to bring peace to the divided southern nations, to free Medalon from Karien occupation, and to find the strength to put an end to Loclon.

Well met, traveler! Since you are going in my direction, why don't we walk on together for a while? If luck is with us, perhaps we shall overtake Omar before nightfall, if that pirate of an innkeeper spoke true.

This book is about a story teller who meets a man and the story teller spends a few days telling the man stories. The stories, as it turns out interweave with the events in their lives over the few days that they spend time together. It's not a bad book, but it's not a memorable book either. I love Dave Duncon's Magic Casement series, so I always try his other books and somdtimes I'm disappointed. The narrator was excellent!!! I've never been disappointed by Derek Perkins performance!

I love this series. It's the story of a very young man who unwittingly becomes a hero and the story tells of his growth and of his heros journey. It's a story of sword and sorcery and love, and the love part is appropriate for all ages and not mushy, or over done. If you like sword and sorcery books with elves and monsters then this is a book you'll probably like as much as I do.

Paksenarrion Dorthansdotter follows her dream of becoming a hero out of legend by running away to join the army. Military life and warfare aren't anything like she imagined - yet she holds to both her duty and her dreams. Sheepfarmer's Daughter, Divided Allegiance, and Oath of Gold tell of her rise to become the paladin who saves a kingdom. In this new trilogy, Paks's former comrades in Duke Phelan's Company assume new roles and the story turns to follow their adventures.

This is the follow up series to the Sheep Farmers Daughter trilogy. This series stands up on it's own without listening to the Sheep Farmers Daughter trilogy, but I highly recommend listening to it first. This series is about the lives of people who were minor characters in the Sheep Farmers Daughter series rather than the life of Paksenarrion. I really enjoyed this series as much as I did in the Sheep Farmers Daughter series. I highly recommend it.

No, make that surprisingly GREAT! I loved this series. Each book gets better and better. This isn't a sword and sorcery book (my favorite), but there is a little magic in it and more in each book in the series. This is the story of a young woman who seeks a life in the military and about her growth both in the military and personally and her rise as a warrior and magically in a world where magic is a sin. I was really hesitant to buy it, but I'm sure glad I did. I highly recommend it.

Rigel has always known he is not quite human, but the only clue to his origin is the otherworldly bracelet he has worn since childhood. His search for his parentage leads him to the Starlands, where reality and fantasy have changed places. There he learns that he is a human-starborn cross, and his bracelet is the legendary magical amulet Saiph, which makes its wearer an unbeatable swordsman.

I just can't stand Nick Podehl's narration!!! I think this book would be really entertaining if they had a better narrator. The book itself was pretty good. The problem was with Nick's narration caused me to drift off and I would have to rewind the book and really focus on the book. I love David Duncon's The Magic Casement series and this series was just not as good.

In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

You won't be missing anything if you don't purchase this book. This book contains 3 short stories that I gather are basically prequels. I enjoyed it, but I'm left feeling unfulfilled. I think it would have been better if the author had just written a true prequel to the series. There are two narrators and one was really pretty good, but the other not so much. Save your credit for something better.
