What would have made Fifty Shades Darker better?

A different narrator and a better story line

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Vince Flynn's "The Last Man"

What didn’t you like about Becca Battoe’s performance?

Monotonic voice, much like someone reading to a classroom with no feeling or emotion

What character would you cut from Fifty Shades Darker?

I stopped after one hour so I can not answer

    Any additional comments?

I bought this based on the high count of 4 star ratings. I am obviously in the minority.

Owen is the organizer of the Montgomery clan, running the family’s construction business with an iron fist - and an even less flexible spreadsheet. And though his brothers give him grief for his compulsive list making, the Inn BoonsBoro is about to open right on schedule. The only thing Owen didn’t plan for was Avery MacTavish... Avery’s popular pizza place is right across the street from the inn, giving her a firsthand look at its amazing renovation - and a newfound appreciation for Owen.

Would you try another book from Nora Roberts and/or MacLeod Andrews?

Yes, in fact this is the first book by Nora Roberts that I have not enjoyed.

What could Nora Roberts have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The book felt like it was being forced to completion. I finished it because Nora Roberts wrote it, otherwise I would have stopped after the first hour.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, in fact I kept listening because the narration was good enough to make me think the story would get better.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The story concept certainly had merit, but the ghost seemed to be an after thought.

    Any additional comments?

I bought this for my wife thinking this would be a good introduction to audio books. She stopped listening after the first hour.

Between avoiding the FBI and their moronic profiling computer, joining a dating service, mixing it up with street thugs, and parrying the advances of an uncouth PI, Lieutenant Jacqueline Daniels and her binge-eating partner Herb must catch a frightening maniac who calls himself "The Gingerbread Man" before he kills again...and Jack is next on his murder list.

After reading Whiskey Sour, and getting to know 'Jack' Daniels, it was an easy choice to purchase the other seven books in the series. Excellent story with a great job of reading by Dick Hill and Susie Breck.

Harry Bosch has been given three years before he must retire from the LAPD, and he wants cases more fiercely than ever. In one morning, he gets two. DNA from a 1989 rape and murder matches a 29-year-old convicted rapist. Was he an eight-year-old killer, or has something gone terribly wrong in the new Regional Crime Lab? Then Bosch and his partner are called to a death scene fraught with internal politics....

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Until the final chapters this was a 5 star book. In fact, I was already putting it at the top of my Connelly favorites. But, in my opinion, as Bosh was rushing to catch the prison bus his personality seemed to begin changing and he suddenly decided, the creep child molester had to be saved and tried in a court of law. Justice must be served.

Would you ever listen to anything by Michael Connelly again?

Absolutely, I have listened to, or read, every Harry Bosh book. You don't drop an old friend over one disapointing story. I just felt there was a better choice of endings that would have been more in line with Bosh's personality. It seems todays society is full of bad guys getting away with all sorts of crimes through slick attorneys showing how they can beat the system. The worst of which involves child abuse. Casey Anthony for example. I simply can not believe Bosh would have rushed that hard to take a chance on justice NOT being served. Let the victim get justice for himself and indirectly get justice for all the other victim's, then let him be tried, and finally let the reader decide...

Which character ??? as performed by Len Cariou ??? was your favorite?

Len Cariou was excellent in the work he did with all the characters

What character would you cut from The Drop?

    none

    Any additional comments?

Seeing 4 plus stars makes it clear I'm basically alone with my opinion, so I'll just wait and look forward to Bosh getting a chance to make up for The Drop in book 18.
