I've enjoyed several Maya Banks books, and this one is no different. I love Kirsten Potter, and totally adore "highlander love and war", so I knew I was in for a treat!
I liked the overall storyline, and the challenges that Eveline (sp?) faced because of her situation made me love her all the more. There were a few moments where I thought the story was a little slow, but overall it was a sweet love story. It's comparable to her other highlander series, but it doesn't seem like you're listening to the same story again. I'm interested to see what happens next in book 2!
Smiley!!! What a great book! Super funny, full of drama and suspense, and as usual, sexy, sexy, and a little more sexy, which is the New Species way. A new threat arises against the New Species and Smiley is caught right in the middle of it all. If you're into this series, this one won't disappoint!
It kind of breaks my heart when a favorite author releases a book that just doesn't meet the standard they've set with their other books...RIPPED just didn't do it for me--from the female narrator, to the emotionally void Pandora. I LOVED all of the preceding books in the Real Series--love, love, love--and will be a Katy Evans fan for life, but, I was left a bit unenthused with RIPPED.
Overall, it was decent, but not a 'rush to purchase and listen' at all. My biggest issue was with Pandora, and how the fact that she was literally a walking manifestation of bitterness & pain, made it challenging for me to connect and like her character. The 'contract/deal' that reconnects her with Makenna seemed too weak of a storyline to carry the weight of all that was truly going on with them from the past and potential future. All in all, Evans served up hot hot sexy scenes, and created a super smoking hot rock star male lead character that I would certainly by a concert ticket to see--Makenna Jones!
The latter 1/3 of the story was truly the best for me, very touching, and reminded me of why I've enjoyed Katy Evans' books in the past. This is not a review to say don't get this book, but, I'd likely wait until it's on sale.
I listened to this one out the sequence order but it was on par with the others for sure! Loved it!
Darkness is definitely in the top 5 of the best stories from the New Species series! I'd been waiting for Darkness ever since he was introduced several books ago. He wasn't even a prominent character in the preceding books, but, just the cameos of him left an impression. His sarcastic broody nature throughout the book, made me laugh out loud sometimes; and Kat was just the type of woman to take him on. They're officially one of my favorite 'book couples'. The storyline was intriguing and kept my interest throughout. Overall, Laurann Dohner does an excellent job of writing hilarious and sexy dialogue, that seems to be the staple with New Species. Great narration, even though there's not much variation, New Species series is a stand out for me. I highly recommend this book and series!
This one is for sure one of my favorites in this series. Caleb was making me feel some kind of way in book 2, so I knew without a doubt I would enjoy him falling! What a great love story! I thought it was well written, and focused on circumstances that have touched almost all of us. There were moments in the story where my mouth gaped open in shock, or I found myself tearing up a bit; I loved every minute of this story. Even the horrible male narrator didn't take away from the good storyline, hot sexy scenes, and the totally adorable twins that literally stole the show!
If you're new to this author or series, start from the beginning, skip book 4 if you're feeling cheeky, and dive straight into the SAFE arms of Caleb 'hot as sin' Montgomery!
Ugggghhhhh, why?!?! I was going along thoroughly enjoying this series and then one of the worst male narrators suddenly has more lines than just a cameo like he did in the preceding stories. I gave two stars for performance mainly because I've been enjoying Jennifer Mack, and I'd prefer this series stick to only her narrating. Without her, we're looking at a strong -1 stars for sure.
Rock w/Me was a decent read/listen; I liked Leo's character and he really made the book for me. Sam was kind of forgettable in the first three books so I wasn't as into her, the addition of Leo helped make the story tolerable but, overall this one was a little bit of a throw away. The storyline was somewhat weak so some scenes and emotions were just unwarranted.
I hate writing a primarily negative review, especially for a series and author that I would still recommend. This series is a definite download for the hopeless romantics, you will love it, but honestly, you could probably skip this particular one and not miss too much.
I'm totally stuck on this series, and I'm not even trying to listen to anything else these days! I've listened to one after the other and I've been a smitten kitten each time. My only criticism of this particular story was the leading lady--she was such a tough chic, it bordered on being too much because Will was ever the gentleman throughout, and I just wanted her to give in to him. This series is hitting all my buttons. The stories are hot, funny, and just overall good love stories that make you feel good and wish you had one of these hot hunks to keep you warm!
My title for this review is exactly what Nate and Jules are together. This was a great story in this series, just as good as the first but had a bit more wicked sarcasm between the two lovers and I just eat up that kind of witty banter. The love scenes were hot and steamy to say the least, but the romance between the two is what kept me listening and eager to give this a high rating. I'm officially a Kristen Proby SuperFan!
I'm not sure what took me so long to purchase and listen to this book! I've seen it popping up as an option for the genre I love, time and time again, with great reviews. Shame on me is all I can say. This book hit all my sweet spots--it was super hot and sexy--like E.R.O.T.I.C., but, romantic, funny, and endearing, with characters that I can't wait to find out more about. This story is a great beginning to a new series that I will surely gorge myself on with a marathon listening session.
Initially, I wasn't sure about the narrator---her voice is kind of like really sugary candy but was well suited for Natalie's sweet and sassy manner. Luke and Natalie have a love affair that made me swoon--and I'm so not a swooner--but there I was, swooning while driving in my car, totally loving these two together. Overall, I'd highly recommend this book for those who want to drown themselves in love, romance and total ear melting eroticism. I loved it!
This was a pleasant surprise! Dee and Matthew weren't even on my radar--they were like, semi-interesting sidekicks in Tangled/Twisted, but, surprisingly, Tamed was really enjoyable! Matthew's no Drew, but he kept my interest peaked; and Dee, well she's in a category all her own--she was hilarious. The story moves pretty quickly, boy meets girl, boy calls girl, boy and girl suddenly are locked at the lips and a couple weeks later...'Audible hopes you've enjoyed your story', basically. If there was a negative, it's that there were moments where I felt like the transitions within conversations or moments within the relationship weren't smooth and/or logical. It IS fiction, so I can cut the author some slack.
Similar to the other stories in the series, this one was told from the man's perspective--which is quickly becoming a favorite vantage point for me; It was a nice change to read/listen to a story where the guy wasn't a total douchebag that has an epiphany, but, is a man that realized early on what he wanted and the result, is a the romantic short - TAMED. This one made me laugh out loud, and fall in love with love. Highly recommended if you enjoyed Tangled.
