This brilliant satirical novel, tracing the life and loves of Ernest Pontifex, has continued in popularity since its original publication in 1903. Every generation finds in The Way of All Flesh a reaffirmation of youth's rightful struggle against the tyranny of harsh parents and its admirable will for freedom of personal expression.

    "Simply Phenomenal"

One of the best novels I've read or heard.

In one of the most important books of our time, Allan Bloom, a professor of social thought at the University of Chicago and a noted translator of Plato and Rousseau, argues that the social and political crisis of 20th-century America is really an intellectual crisis.

Weak, bombastic, and not worth a reasonable person's time.

The outcast youth Ishmael, succumbing to wanderlust during a dreary New England autumn, signs up for passage aboard a whaling ship. The Pequod sails under the command of the one-legged Captain Ahab, who has set himself on a monomaniacal quest to capture the cunning white whale that robbed him of his leg: Moby-Dick. Capturing life on the sea with robust realism, Melville details the adventures of the colorful crew aboard the ship as Ahab pursues his crusade of revenge, heedless of all cost.

Sarah says: "Gripping despite the minutiae"

    Good narration too. Five stars.

National Book Award and PEN/Faulkner Award winner and best-selling author Don DeLillo crafts a magnificent tale laying bare 20th-century American culture as defined by the Cold War. Spanning 50 years, this is a story about human relationships and how they affect one another on global and local scales. Richard Poe's brilliant performance captures the essence of each character through five decades of change.

Julie says: "this book is a gothic cathedral of literature....."
"Narrator fails to deliver Delillo's Brilliance"

I first bought/read the boook. Enjoyed it so much that I bought it again when it became available on Audible. Perhaps I had high expectations - I was hopi9ng for a moving narration, a performance that would match the depth of the book...what you have is a bad narrator, slow and cold. Then re-read the book to convince myself that this was America's best 20th century novel. It is.
