Some places are too good to be true. Under a pink moon, there is a perfect little town not found on any map. In that town, there are quiet streets lined with pretty houses, houses that conceal the strangest things. After a couple years of hard traveling, ex-cop Mona Bright inherits her long-dead mother's home in Wink, New Mexico. And the closer Mona gets to her mother's past, the more she understands that the people of Wink are very, very different....

If you love Dean Koontz's Phantoms and The Taking, Neil Gaiman's American Gods, or Stephen King's The Tommyknockers then the is the brand of horror/sci-fi/mythos for you! Ugh, love this book.

I was already a fan of Miyazaki's film but wasn't that familiar with the book. I'd found a copy in the back corner of a used bookstore once and had purchased but never found the time to read it for myself. My wife (who is a big reader) picked it up, loved it and recommended that I should definitely read it too. When I found (to my delight) an audio version and started listening, I was hardly able to STOP listening! Wow, this book is so much more full, and rich, and magical than the film's story and so well narrated too! If I only had two books to recommend from my listening experience this last year they would be The Night Circus and Howl's Moving Castle...they'll leave you dreaming :D
