When Sparrowhawk casts a spell that saves his village from destruction at the hands of the invading Kargs, Ogion, the Mage of Re Albi, encourages the boy to apprentice himself in the art of wizardry. So, at the age of 13, the boy receives his true name - Ged - and gives himself over to the gentle tutelage of the Master Ogion. But impatient with the slowness of his studies and infatuated with glory, Ged embarks for the Island of Roke, where the highest arts of wizardry are taught.

Do you enjoy fantasy? Do you enjoy ANY stories with wizards in them? If you answered yes, then you CANNOT pass up this book.

The only criticism i have of this book is that it's too short. I think the target audience is younger readers, but enjoyed reading it for the first time as an adult. I have never read anything like it from this perspective.

This is the first book I've read by Ursula Le Guin, but so far I love her. She knows how to paint a scene, without being too wordy so that we can actually enjoy a progressing story. *

Love the Narrator; he's perfect for this one.

*I read an article from George R. R. Martin where he basically said if it wasn't for writer's like Ursula Le Guin and her "Wizard of Earthsea" (and a few others), that fantasy wouldn't be where it is today. That says a LOT.

Combing through 70 years of comic books, television shows, and movies, Batman and Philosophy explores how the Dark Knight grapples with ethical conundrums, moral responsibility, his identity crisis, the moral weight he carries to avenge his murdered parents, and much more. How does this caped crusader measure up against the teachings of Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Kierkegaard, and Lao Tzu?

Josiah says: "Its interesting but stretches a bit."

If you are not at least a fairly hardcore batman fan, you probably wont enjoy this. You don't have to be the #1 fan, knowing everything about all batman comics, but it would help to know at least the main core character relationships batman has.

If this is you, and you are even MILDLY interested in philosophy, then I think at the very least you'll get a kick out this, and at the very most you will be entertained with a tour through the batman world while you're being introduced to and explore the more core ideas of philosophy.

Like every other hobbit, Bilbo Baggins likes nothing better than a quiet evening in his snug hole in the ground, dining on a sumptuous dinner in front of a fire. But when a wandering wizard captivates him with tales of the unknown, Bilbo becomes restless. Soon he joins the wizard’s band of homeless dwarves in search of giant spiders, savage wolves, and other dangers. Bilbo quickly tires of the quest for adventure and longs for the security of his familiar home. But before he can return to his life of comfort, he must face the greatest threat of all.

Narration is great. Although the story is not the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy, it is nonetheless great. Full of fun adventures and familiar character tie-ins to the other books. This book is the Prequel to Fellowship of the Ring.

I think this book was written for his kids, but i still enjoy it as an adult. Great for all ages.

The Hobbit book is being split into 3 movies. I have watched the first one, and so far, they're keeping the story pretty close to the book.

The science fiction classic that coined the term "time machine" and is generally credited with the popularization of the concept of time travel. A must listen for any fan of science fiction!

Good story, but don't expect a fun, action packed read. Take a ride to the future, where we see the inevitable outcome of our "modern" political society. Interesting..

The book was made into a movie that was pretty entertaining. Be warned though; the movie took out the political criticisms that made up most of the book, and made it a completely different story.
