Jack Till, who has retired from the LAPD after a respected career as a homicide detective, now works as a private investigator, comfortable chasing down routine cases while visiting his 24-year-old daughter, Holly, who has Down Syndrome. But when the parents of a recently murdered young girl, about Holly's age, ask for his help when the police come up empty, Till reluctantly takes the case.

This is my first Thomas Perry novel and I wasn't impressed. I found the Jack Till character to be boring. I kept expecting him to develop more but it just didn't happen. Don't get me started about the end of the story. It was very abrupt. The whole story could have been made better by an epilogue.

Here are three award-winning Harry Bosch thrillers, all voiced by standout Broadway veteran Len Cariou: The Narrows, Echo Park, and The Overlook.

I bought this set and didn't realize that it is actually book 10, 12, and 13 in the series. The Narrows and Echo park are great. The Overlook is mediocre. It was worth the credit I spent on it even with one iffy book in the collection.

R is a young man with an existential crisis—he is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he has dreams. His ability to connect with the outside world is limited to a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. After experiencing a teenage boy’s memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and strangely sweet relationship with the victim’s human girlfriend, Julie.

I am not even sure how I finished this book. The story is ridiculous and stupid. The narration was fine, but that was the only good thing about the book. The majority of the reviews were good, so I wasn't expecting something so horrible. Stay away from this book.

Few books have captivated the imagination and won the devotion and praise of readers and critics everywhere as has George R. R. Martin’s monumental epic cycle of high fantasy that began with A Game of Thrones. Now, in A Feast for Crows, Martin delivers the long-awaited fourth book of his landmark series, as a kingdom torn asunder finds itself at last on the brink of peace . . . only to be launched on an even more terrifying course of destruction.

I thought the reviews of the performance were a little harsh when I read them, but after listening to the story I believe them to be on point. Let me say I'm not picky when it comes to narrators. I listen to most books at 3x speed and slight inconsistencies don't usually bother me. The voices of characters were off as well as pronunciations. I had a hard time getting past the pronunciation of Lord Petyr's name. In previous books it was pronounced Petar and this book it was Peter. I enjoyed the story, but was disappointed by the narration.

This a great series. I purchased the first three books in the series unabridged and with a different narrator. For this book unabridged and with the original narrator wasn't an option. At first I thought my dislike of the narrator was me just not liking change, but as the story progressed my opinion of the narrator didn't. He uses voices that make the characters sound mentally retarded. I still enjoyed the story, but was distracted by the narration.

  • Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!! It is hard to believe that someone could have gone through the horrible ordeal that Louis Zamperini did and survive, but this book definitely shows what a true hero is made of. I couldn't put this book down. It is a must-read.

I bought this book for my children because I always loved it and wasn't able to find a physical copy of the book. Definitely worth the small amount of money I paid. I use the app for playback and it shows the pictures from the book on my phone. My kids didn't miss out on the wonderful illustrations.

The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

I was expecting a great book just based on reviews and that is not what I got. The narration was fine, but the story was awful. It jumps back and forth in time telling stories and it just doesn't work. I stuck with it and made it about 75% of the book. I just kept waiting for it to get better. I finally gave up and didn't finish it.
