Emily and Jessamine Bach are opposites in every way: 28-year-old Emily is the CEO of Veritech; 23-year-old Jess is an environmental activist and graduate student in philosophy. Emily is making a fortune in Silicon Valley, Jess works in an antiquarian bookstore. The Cookbook Collector is a novel about getting and spending, and about the substitutions we make when we can’t find what we’re looking for. But above all, it is about holding on to what is real in a virtual world: love that stays.

    Freida says: "An engaging read"
"Love the book... nice written and read"
    Overall

Love the book.., although it was sometime predictable.., the characters and the story are well written.., a lot of romance and computers but it also reflects the dot com era that was lived by my generation

Hoping to improve their social standing, May and Pearl's parents arrange for their daughters to "Gold Mountain men" who have come from Los Angeles to find brides. But when the sisters leave China and arrive at Angel's Island (the Ellis Island of the West, where they are detained, interrogated, and humiliated for months) they feel the harsh reality of leaving home. And when May discovers she's pregnant, the situation becomes even more desperate. The sisters make a pact that no one can ever know.

Frances says: "Touching, sad, and enjoyable"
    "Wonderful story..,"
    Overall

Well written book.., I loved the story.., the relationship between the 2 sisters, the cultural shocks between USA and China.., the story really moves you.., although at the end of the book seems the writer just let the reader an unfinished feeling
