Meg is busy with apple harvest when her mother shows up unannouced. She has to balance harvesting apples, her parents and murder. This is a very entertaining book. The intrusion of her parents and the murder is very realistic. I don't know whythe state police bothers with investigating because Meg manages to beat them to the truth. I wish there was a different narrator. This one does a terrible job. Sometimes Seth has an accent sometimes he doesn't. Plus everyone sounds old.

Annie and Max Darling watch the Fourth of July festival explode not only with fun and fireworks, but with murder as well. A library board newcomer who also happens to be a retired Brigadier General maneuvers the theme of the festival, which is to benefit the library, into his own vision: "Points of Patriotism." His takeover attitude has alienated everyone, including Annie, who finds it difficult to ignore him - especially when he's shot dead before her eyes.

There was simply too much going on in this book. The reader is inaundated with the lead character's opinion on Mormans and her trust issues with men. The reader is told about her past with domestic violence but instead of making Quincy endearing it makes her annoying because of her behavior. Quincy acts without thinking and maes horrible decisions. Her character remained flat and unlikable throughout the book. The plot fell short in that there wasn't very much investigation done by Quincy. There were few clues to develep the mystery which made the story boring. I forced myself to finish this book because I had nothing else to listen to. I wouldn't recommend it.
