I read the first book in this series and found it annoying, but at least I finished it. This one was worse. The plot is unrealistic- step son from previous marriage runs away because his parents are thinking about getting together and gets involved in murder plot. The story made no sense. It was also very boring. Not could I not get into the story but I didn't find any of the characters interested. I finally gave up halfway through it. I will not buy a book by this author again.

The Ducote sisters are in a tiff with Vera Cassity over the location of this year's library fundraising gala, and Charlie would rather curl up in a corner than get into the fray. It seems everyone - even his housekeeper Azalea - has it in for Vera. And at the gala, she gives them good reason, with a public display of rancor aimed at anyone who gets in her way.But those bitter words wind up being her last.

Once again Samantha Rain saves the day. This is one of the best books in the series. I'm giving it 4 stars because ut is short. The length of the book is my only complaint.

When winter's done, but spring has not yet fully sprung, much of Alaska turns to slush. Locally, it's called "breakup," and it's a…messy time of year. It's certainly messy for Kate Shugak; between doing her taxes, being chased by grizzlies, and getting shot at by feuding families, she has to cope with an NTSB investigation that hits very close to home. Then, of course, there's the body in the woods. And up at the old mining town. And…being Kate Shugak, somehow she can't leave well enough alone, and begins to tease apart a well-planned and surprising crime.

Kate Shugak is usually a gauranteed good book. This one felt like a collection of stories sewn together with Kate as witness and active participant. At the end of each scene or story was the phrase I hate Breakup or some variation. It was okay but that's all I can really say. I hope the next book is better.

The discount travel package to Italy seemed like a great deal: Emily Andrew could lead her globe-trotting Iowans on the trip of a lifetime and bring her family to boot. Maybe she should have read the fine print… Sharing their itinerary with a group of hyper-competitive aspiring romance writers is just a prelude to more Machiavellian drama than an Italian opera. But the real killer is a contest sponsored by a publishing house - and the depths to which the dime-novel divas will plunge to win a book contract.

I really don't have a lot to say. As far as plot goes, this is a recreation of the first two books. The only difference is the location. I couldn't finish this book and will not get another one in this series.

This book is the best of the series so far. Both the characters and the plot are very realistic. I enjoy the realistic way that Steve is overcoming his past and creating a new future for himself. I also like the relationship with his dog. This is a great series and I look forward to the next book.
