Born a generation apart and with very different ideas about love and family, Mariam and Laila are two women brought jarringly together by war, by loss, and by fate. As they endure the ever escalating dangers around them, in their home as well as in the streets of Kabul, they come to form a bond that makes them both sisters and mother-daughter to each other, and that will ultimately alter the course not just of their own lives but of the next generation.

    David says: "Somber but gripping"
    "A Book about women's troubles"
    Overall

Overall I didn't like this book. There were a few interesting parts, but overall it just droned on describing the hardships of two afghan women. Maybe the title should be "A Thousand Splendid Suns - A Book for Women" Then regular guy readers would know to STAY AWAY.

"Good fun - adventure book for geeks"
    Overall

This is like a Nancy Drew book for adult geeks, I'm a 33 year old male, fairly geeky but not overly so and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Yes there is lots of sexual innuendo, perhaps too much. But it's all in good fun and I'm sure the geeky guys will enjoy it alot. The hero of the book is basically a grown up nerd (wizard), running around blasting demons, being a tough guy, saving women and generally kicking ass. A fun listen. The only annoying part about the audio is that the narrator swallows audibly and frequently.

McCullough's John Adams has the sweep and vitality of a great novel. This is history on a grand scale, an audiobook about politics, war, and social issues, but also about human nature, love, religious faith, virtue, ambition, friendship, and betrayal, and the far-reaching consequences of noble ideas. Above all, it is an enthralling, often surprising story of one of the most important and fascinating Americans who ever lived.

    Davis says: "An outstanding biography"
    "Snoozefest"
    Overall

If you're expecting a good story, then look elsewhere!

Perhaps this author should take a lesson from Ken Follet on writing a history novel. This book is horrible; it reads like a high school textbook. It's all facts and very little story/plot. I tried to get into it, but no matter how many chances I gave the book, I gave up.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

    Joseph says: "A storyteller's story"
    "Engaging and educational"
    Overall

I'll admit, I'm your typical American guy and had no idea about the culture and turmoil details in Afghanistan. This book not only weaves a wonderful tale of hardships, but educates the reader about Afghans and their country. The author's self loathing is a bit much at times, but overall a very good listen. I enjoyed this book far more than the "A Thousand Splendid Suns"; which, honestly, I didn't like at all.

"Where have all the dragons gone?" Explore the crazy, creepy land called Discworld, where you'll discover that the dragons aren't asleep or dead - they're dormant, packed in like huge, scaly sardines.

Glen Phipps says: "The best satire available"
    "Fun escape from reality"
    Overall

The audiobook is fun, I've avoided Terry Pratchett in the past due to his (previously thought of overly) intellectual humor and I finally gave in and gave this a listen. WOW! I was enjoying myself practically the whole way through. Not quite a 5 star book, but close. I highly recommend it.

Amidst the decaying splendor and poisonous intrigue of Chalion's ancient capital, Cazaril is forced to confront not only powerful enemies but also the malignant curse that clings to the royal household, trapping him, flesh and soul, in a maze of demonic paradox, damnation, and death for as long as he dares walk the five-fold pathway of the gods.

Terri says: "What makes a hero... LMB knows"
    "So-So"

It was OK overall, good if there is nothing else to listen to. But nothing great... some boring parts, some good parts, lots of cliche's.
