  • Over the Edge: Troubleshooters, Book 3

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 42 mins)
    • By Suzanne Brockmann
    • Narrated By Laura Hicks

For Lieutenant Teri Howe, one of the best helicopter pilots in the naval reserves, nothing stands in the way of her passion for flying--until a past mistake surfaces, jeopardizing everything she's worked for. Senior Chief Stan Wolchonok has made a career of tackling difficult challenges so it's no surprise when he comes to Teri's aid, knowing that his personal code of honor--and perhaps his heart--will be at risk.

    T. says: "Pivotal Book of the Series!!!!"
    "Oh yeah!"

I do have to say that althought Teri and Wolchonock's story is really good (nice to hear that Stan is human), who kept me "at the edge" of my seat was Sam. And Sam caves...

  • The Icarus Deception: How High Will You Fly?

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 12 mins)
    • By Seth Godin
    • Narrated By Seth Godin
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In his bravest and most challenging book yet, Seth Godin shows how we can thrive in an economy that rewards art, not compliance. He explains why true innovators focus on trust, remarkability, leadership, and stories that spread. And he makes a passionate argument for why you should be treating your work as art. Art is not a gene or a specific talent. It's an attitude, available to anyone who has a vision that others don't, and the guts to do something about it.

Clay says: "Change the way you see work"
"The author is a horrible reader"
What would have made The Icarus Deception better?

You would think someone who wrote the book would know how to read it without stopping 3/4 into a sentence as if it were done. Very distracting. Obviously like any author, he is entitled to his opinion, but he sure comes across as someone who was picked last as a kid and is now making a statement because he can. Also the constant referring to a third person as a female is annoying. What is wrong with saying "he or she"? You definitely don't get a sympathy vote from this female. For as much as he talks about the art of connection, he lost me in the first chapter.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Didn't get there...that says it all

What didn’t you like about Seth Godin’s performance?

He tries not to be monotonous, and runs into fake tones and artificial stops.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It has som interesting points of view that could have been summarized in a blog.

  • Bossypants

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By Tina Fey
    • Narrated By Tina Fey

Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update," before "Sarah Palin," Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told....

Warren says: "Tina Fey broke my new SUV"
"Is that supposed to be funny?"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

People who like midless and vulgar shows.

Has Bossypants turned you off from other books in this genre?

It has never been my type of book. The only reason I bought it was because everyone seemed to like it and laugh a lot. I never laughed once. Really terrible!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Tina Fey?

It is best to have the author read it, especially when it is personal.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Bossypants?

The whole would have never seen the light.

    Any additional comments?

I was hoping to get a laugh or something, but it is a mindless wandering of thoughts on how a description can be worst than the previous, and trying to make that pass as art or entertainment. Worthless. Do not spend your money on this.

  • The Admiral's Bride

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 9 mins)
    • By Suzanne Brockmann
    • Narrated By Allyson Johnson
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When six canisters of a lethal nerve agent are stolen from a military testing lab, Admiral Jake Robinson must recover the chemicals - by any means necessary. He defies convention and decides to infiltrate the compound where religious fanatics have stored the deadly toxin.

BA in LA says: "Susan Brockman at her best!"
"LOVED IT...but you must read Hawken's Heart first"

Again, Suz is amazing in getting you into the head of the characters. The way Suz makes you feel how Jake struggles to let go of Daisy is just incredible. You DO NEED to read "Hawken's Heart" first or you won't understand this book in its depth. I would like to see a bit more of the SEAL action that Suz usually puts in there, but it is great.

  • West with the Night

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 13 mins)
    • By Beryl Markham
    • Narrated By Julie Harris
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

West with the Night is the story of a remarkable woman molded and shaped by many things: the African jungle, a certain dog, horses, airplanes, friendships with white men and black. There is no life, no story quite like it.

Michael Moore says: "Top Notch Writing; Riveting Stories"
    "Terrible reader"

I was recommended this book by a friend, who absolutely loved it. I'm sorry, I can't even get to half of it. My main problem is the mile long sentences with multiple ideas. The way the reader is intonating, you can't tell one thing apart from the other. There are so many parentheses and digressions in a sentence to explain some things that the sentences are very difficult to follow. Please, make sure readers intonate correctly where a comma and a period are. I don't know what it looks on the page at all based on the reader. I would like to hear about the stories historic icon Amelia went through, but I just can' is not appealing.

  • Infamous

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 13 mins)
    • By Suzanne Brockmann
    • Narrated By Angela Dawe, Patrick Lawlor
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When history professor Alison Carter became a consultant to the film version of the Wild West legend she’d dedicated her career to researching, she couldn’t possibly have known that she would not only get a front-row seat to a full-blown Hollywood circus but would innocently witness something that would put her life in peril. Nor did she expect that a tall stranger in a cowboy hat would turn the movie — and her world — completely upside down.

    LeftyMom says: "Loved it!"

Awesome! I had so much fun "reading" this one...I could not put it down. In fact I listened to it twice in 3 days, and I am not an avid reader! Suz writes in such a vivid way that I thought I was in the plot most of the time. Many of the situations were just hilarious.

I got to say, when I first started listening to Patrick Lowler (who makes Suz's books just GREAT to listen to), I kept seeing Decker and Dave (from the Troubleshooter series) in my mind because he used the same voices. It was kind of funny, but it dissapeared within 1 or 2 chapters!

If you have never read Suz's books, be aware of explicit passages.

  • Time Enough for Love

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 56 mins)
    • By Suzanne Brockmann
    • Narrated By Susan Boyce
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Maggie Winthrop doesn't believe in time travel any more than she believes in comic-book heroes or the tooth fairy. So when the naked man appears in her backyard, saying he's come from the future to prevent a global catastrophe, Maggie doesn't buy it--despite the spark of attraction between them. But when the handsome stranger accurately predicts things no one could possibly guess, Maggie starts to doubt everything she knows to be true.

Mary says: "Too Sweet to Sallow"
    "Suz with a twist"

I have really enjoyed this new twist in Suz's writing - science fiction/paranormal. It is still her writing, but the plots are interesting. I loved it!

  • Gone Too Far

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 53 mins)
    • By Suzanne Brockmann
    • Narrated By Deborah Hazlett

Lt. Sam Starrett, one of America's elite warriors, shows up at his ex-wife's home only to discover that his daughter is gone and a woman's body lies brutally murdered on the floor. FBI agent Alyssa Locke, who once was involved with Sam, is assigned to the case, and soon explosive information surfaces that links Sam to an unsolved assassination plot. With her reputation hanging in the balance, Alyssa must arrest a man she believes to be innocent or risk her career.

    Aurora says: "Oh Sam!"
    "Oh Sam!"

If you are new to the Troubleshooters series, I recommend starting from the beginning. The stories are linked. Sam and Alyssa go way back to the first book, although that one is NOT essential to understand things. BUT you DO need to read "The defiant hero" and "Over the Edge" (in that order) to understand Sam and Alyssa's relationship. Things in this book open your eyes to some of the things that Sam says and does.

I read some of the comments on some of the language thing...interestingly I did not notice the swearing at all the first time I listened to the book because it's Sam! In relistening to the book after reading that comment I did notice the swearing, but that's part of what makes him Sam.

The series is amazing. Some people don't like the multiple stories. It may take a bit to get used to it, but I have come to love it. The action is amazing in most of the books (I have to agree with others on the lack of action plot in #12 - All through the night), but having followed Jules' story throughout all the other books, it was OK. These are romance books with explicit scenes mingled with action. If you don't like either, this is not your kind of book. If you like both (you're probably a Gemini), you are in luck! Best books I have ever read, I can't enough. And I can't wait to hear more about Izzy and Eden, which Suz has promised for next book! I was very surprised when she answered my suggestion on her website within a couple of days!

  • Heartthrob

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 49 mins)
    • By Suzanne Brockmann
    • Narrated By Ralph Lowenstein
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Once voted the Sexiest Man Alive, Jericho Beaumont dominated the box office before his fall from grace. Now poised for a comeback, he wants the role of Laramie bad enough to sign an outrageous contract with top producer Kate O'Laughlin--one that gives her the authority to supervise JB's every move. Despite her better judgment, Kate's attraction to JB flares into an explosive passion, but is she being charmed by the real Jericho--or the superstar who dazzles the world?

    Judy says: "Great Book!"
"OK, but Suz has better books"

The plot is a bit weird. It sometimes skips days, and other times it spends lots of time in a few minutes of interaction. I am used to the Troubleshooter series, that have more action and it flows more.

  • The Defiant Hero: Troubleshooters, Book 2

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By Suzanne Brockmann
    • Narrated By Carrington MacDuffie

There are eight words Meg Moore has never been able to forget: The United States refuses to negotiate with terrorists. But what was merely a chilling warning when she worked as a translator in a European embassy now spells out a potential death sentence for her daughter and grandmother, who have been kidnapped by a lethal group called the Extremists. Meg has to act - and quickly.

    DB says: "MUST READ !!"
    "A thriller"

Although initially it took a while to get used to the multiple story lines, it was really nice the way they were intertwined.

Suz has a way to engage you in the plot. I pretty much listened to the whole book in one session...walking or just on the couch, I couldn't stop. Captivating!
