Winter of the World picks up right where the first book left off, as its five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, Welsh - enter a time of enormous social, political, and economic turmoil, beginning with the rise of the Third Reich, through the Spanish Civil War and the great dramas of World War II, up to the explosions of the American and Soviet atomic bombs. As always with Ken Follett, the historical background is brilliantly researched and rendered, the action fast-moving, the characters rich in nuance and emotion.

As usual, Ken Follett has written in subject matter that I never would have chosen for myself. No problem, he manages to make it engaging, interesting and well worth the time. Even though I am not a history buff I have enjoyed this as much as the first installment. The narrative makes the large group of characters focused and much less confusing than they could have ended up.

The year was 2014. We had cured cancer. We had beat the common cold. But in doing so we created something new, something terrible that no one could stop. The infection spread, virus blocks taking over bodies and minds with one, unstoppable command: FEED.

Not bad as zombie books go. A little young sounding but i was still able to become engrossed. The story was a little different and fell together well enough that I wasn't drawn to poke holes in it. All in all a good read and promises to remain so throughout.

  • The Wishsong of Shannara: The Shannara Series, Book 3

Fans of the Shannara epic will revel as the forces of good battle an evil book, the Ildatch, which sends the Mord Wraiths to destroy mankind. To overcome this dark force, the Druid Allanon needs Brin Ohmsford, for she holds the power of the wishsong, a magic invoked by singing that can make plants bloom instantly or turn trees from green to autumn gold.

Kenneth says: "Great book and Great reader"
    "Typical Brooks"
    Overall

Plot is much like the rest of his longer books, but still captivating, if you liked one you will more than likely enjoy The Wishsong as well.
