Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this because the story is strong, the characterisations are interesting and there was good tension.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but you can't, so instead I listened as much as I could over the weekend, gardening, shopping, doing the washing, cooking and any other excuse!

Summer 1924: On the eve of a glittering Society party, by the lake of a grand English country house, a young poet takes his life. The only witnesses, sisters Hannah and Emmeline Hartford, will never speak to each other again....Winter 1999: Grace Bradley, 98, one-time housemaid of Riverton Manor, is visited by a young director making a film about the poet's suicide. Ghosts awaken, and memories, long consigned to the dark reaches of Grace's mind, begin to sneak back through the cracks.

What disappointed you about The House at Riverton?

Just not the kind of style of book for me. A story of yesteryear and a style of yesteryear. Some flashbacks, and the story moves at a gracious pace, informing of historical settings and conventions, but not for me.

What could Kate Morton have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

There is no fault in her writing, just not enough impact for my taste.

In a New York City fifty years in the future, Detective Eve Dallas tracks down those who break the law - including the ones sworn to uphold it. Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody, are following up on a brutal, senseless crime - an elderly grocery owner killed by three stoned punks for nothing more than kicks and snacks. And for the first time, Peabody is primary detective on the case, which means she has to get used to a new level of authority and responsibility. Good thing she learned the ropes from a master like Eve. But after rounding up the perps, Peabody stumbles upon a much trickier situation.

Her career in homicide has taken her into the darkest depths of New York City’s underground - and sometimes Lieutenant Eve Dallas feels more comfortable in those kinds of places than in the high-rise, high-society world of her billionaire husband, Roarke. But while she’s no party girl, she’s managing to have a reasonably good time at the celebrity-packed bash celebrating the debut of The Icove Agenda. This time it’s Eve, not Roarke, who’s a guest of honor, since the film is based on one of her famous cases. Her partner, Peabody, is practically giddy....

Would you consider the audio edition of Celebrity in Death to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version. I'm an audible convert and rarely consider print books now.

What did you like best about this story?

I'm enjoying this series, feeling like I'm getting to know and care about the characters. I consider the books reasonably intelligent fluff and escapism. The plot is well written and formulated, so that you only really know who the murderer is when the author allows you to see and it is unexpected.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A book read to you with different 'voices' becomes like a radio play. I think it was well done.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes

What did you love best about The Book of the Dead?

I've been enjoying the characters created in the Pendergast series and the Book of the Dead, complete in itself, cleverly brings threads through from a number of the others, keeps you engaged and wondering how everything is going to fit together.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Pendergast, of course, as he is the hero, capable, enigmatic, caring in a distant sort of way.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

    Not sure.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it is very well put together.

    Any additional comments?

This series of books is slightly wierd (from my perspective). Some of the characters swear quite a bit, but the main characters don't so much. The wierd storylines are also woven with some interesting information indicating that some considerable research undergirds the themes.

This best seller tells of the young Dutch factory worker's incredible efforts to transport Bibles across closed borders - and the miraculous ways in which God provided for him every step of the way. Brother Andrew's story remains as inspiring today as it was 35 years ago, and with this new release, it will motivate a whole new generation to risk everything to follow God's call.

    Challenging, Inspiring, courageous

    Any additional comments?

The biography of coming to a faith in God, accepting the challenge from God to serve the suffering church in humility without judging those on either side of the communist regime. A fantastic listen and challenge to my faith and trust in God - it's timeless and encouraging.

This is the first Chicken Soup audiobook to focus specifically on stories of faith, including 101 of the best stories from Chicken Soup’s library on faith, hope, miracles, and devotion. These true stories written by regular people tell of prayers answered miraculously, amazing coincidences, rediscovered faith, and the serenity that comes from believing in a greater power, appealing to Christians and those of other faiths, and everyone who seeks enlightenment and inspiration through a good story.

What did you like best about Chicken Soup for the Soul: Stories of Faith? What did you like least?

Generally I like the series, ordinary people have amazing stories of faith and perseverance, that really are inspiring. I don't enjoy them all, but that's personal preference and different people are inspired by different things.

Would you recommend Chicken Soup for the Soul: Stories of Faith to your friends? Why or why not?

I would recommend this to friends, everyone needs to be encouraged and provoked at times and we really benefit from the support and encouragement that these kinds of shared experiences bring.
