Devilishly clever, Next blends fact and fiction into a breathless tale of a new world where nothing is what it seems, and a set of new possibilities can open at every turn. Next challenges our sense of reality and notions of morality. Balancing the comic and bizarre with the genuinely frightening and disturbing, Next shatters our assumptions and reveals shocking new choices where we least expect.

Ronald says: "interesting topic - dull, boring, confusing book"
    "Take appropriate action"

I am going to prepare a statement which I will require my doctor to sign when I give blood, urine or any tissue. It will say that I am the sole owner of anything that comes from my body, blood, biopsies, urine, cervical samples, moles, warts, even callouses. Of Michael Criton's books this is the most disturbing and least science fiction book that he has written. My acclaim of the author is spotty, but this book raises issues that each of us must consider in respect to the well being of ourselves, family members, our privacy, and our ability to protect our physical bodies from abuse while we are alive. It involves our individual rights and much more personally than our right to vote or publically express our opinion.

  • The Last Secret of the Temple

    • UNABRIDGED (21 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Paul Sussman
    • Narrated By Gordon Griffin

When the body of hotel owner Piet Jansen is discovered amid the ruins of an archaeological site by the Nile, it looks like a routine investigation for Inspector Yusuf Khalifa of the Luxor Police. But the more he learns about Jansen, the more he is reminded of the brutal murder, some years earlier, of an Israeli woman at Karnak for which he always suspected the wrong man was convicted.

Barbara Ferrini Hilfiker says: "wonderful book"
    "Totally Ridiculous"

This marathon totally ignores the real issues between Israel and Palestine. It is singularly uniformed, pie in the sky wishful thinking. Better to classify it under romance novels or science fiction. It goes on and on to a warm fuzzy ending between a Jew and a Muslim - except the Muslim is Egyptian.... not a player. The high note is, that with a few exceptions, the reader got most of his Egyptian Arabic pronunciations right. It is also a very weak thriller if that is where one wants to classify it. If you want to have a class for idealistic writing and wishful thinking I would upgrade it a star.

  • With No One As Witness

    • ABRIDGED (10 hrs and 18 mins)
    • By Elizabeth George
    • Narrated By Charles Keating

In With No One as Witness, her thirteenth novel, Elizabeth George has crafted an intricate and absorbing story sure to enthrall her readers. Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley, along with his longtime partner, the fiery Barbara Havers, and newly promoted Detective Sergeant Winston Nkata, is back, and on the hunt for a sinister killer.

I love this series, but who would have contracted a reader who makes Lindley sound like an old slightly crotchety man. Yuk. He is supposed to be young cultured and vital.
