My first book by this author and narrator and I just loved every minute of it. Thomas is by far my favourite character - although he struggles with his own hurt he manages to be both compassionate and dependable.
I loved the first two books but this author is seriously just dragging a 2 book series into 5. And how many full-on sex scenes can one bear - really? We get it already and it feels like fillers and relying on the old and tired "sex sells" theory. Very disappointing!
I felt that a third book was forced by rehashing the same story. There was not even a new twist or anything to bring something new to the story. Loved the narrator and loved the first two books but dissapointed with this one.
It surely is impossible for one woman to be that stupid. I think this is an insult to any woman - let alone an intelligent woman to believe this dragged out tale of misery.
I do not like writing a bad review about a narrator as they work very hard and whilst I normally love Caroline Lee's narration, I found the forced Italian pronunciation very annoying. I think it was overdone and very distracting.
I enjoyed this series so much that I have listened to it twice. I did not enjoy book six as much as the others as I had become accustomed to Marguerite Gavin as narrator (who does a sterling job!) and I just could not get used to the change in narrator. I found the incorrect pronunciation of names and places distracting but I stuck with it as I wanted to continue on with the series. Well worth a listen!
I spent a lot of time trying to bond with this book - but it was just horrible. The narrator puts the emphasis in all the wrong places and it just drove me crazy.
Another wonderful book by Bryce Courtenay and what can I say about Humphrey Bower - the man is a master at bringing the characters to life. My husband and I lived in Singapore for 2 years and it was great that the story was set there. Thanks for another very enjoyable listen!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful classic. The narrator is a master. It is hard to stop listening and this is certainly a book that I will listen to more than once. I will be looking for more books read by Martin Jarvis.
I really enjoyed this book. It was entertaining and I will certainly read more books by this author.
