On a hot midsummer night in Discworld, everything seems perfect - crop circles are turning up everywhere, the witch Magrat Garlick is getting married the next morning, and everyone's buzzing with excitement. Unfortunately, the Lancre All-Comers Morris Team has gotten drunk on a fairy mound, and the elves have returned with the traditional traits of the magical realm of Fairie: evil, malice, murder, cruelty, and kidnapping.

70% of the enjoyment I get from an audiobook relies on the narrator being successful. I have found that Nigel Planer's narration of the discworld novels is not ideal. He tends to pronounce words differently each time he says them, and sometimes mixes up the voices assigned to characters!

Please, Nigel... it's "g-eye-tha Ogg, not "githa". I'm sure it is! ;)

The story, of course, is very much worth the listen, even despite the irksomeness!

In Wyrd Sisters, the enchanting world of Discworld is turned upside down by 3 meddling witches: Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, and Magrat Garlick. Their interference in royal politics causes kingdoms to wobble, crowns to topple, knives to flash, and citizens to shudder in fear.

While others found the dramatisation of the narrator a bit over the top, I enjoyed it immensely. I was disappointed the rest of the witches series has not been narrated by Celia Imrie. The voices and very hard to verbalise phrases and humour were nicely balanced.

As for the story - if you're a Pratchett fan, you will love it. If you're not, you probably will be once you've listened to this story.
