I got this one on sale and I figured it would fair at best (as most of the sale books are). But it was pretty good, especially the ending. Usually everything ends all wrapped up as neat as can be. I like that this seemed more realistic. Very hot sex scenes and the chemistry between the 2 main characters was excellent.
On the negative side--the narrator was little too sexy, she almost growled every line. I like her voice but she overdid it a bit.
This book was recommended because I read (and loved) Outlander. It is truly in the same vain...even mentioning Claire, or the white witch as she's known. I'm glad I decided to download it. It was really great--I wish I could figure out how an author can make you care so much about the characters. At times, I wanted to scream at them, or other times I was literally crying. The narrator was great, exactly right. It did get a bit long, I kept thinking, when will they get their happy ending?! If you like historical romance, this is an excellent choice. I haven't read the next in the series yet--I'm going to wait and savor them.
No, who would?
No and I've already told my daughter that she doesn't need to read this one.
Maybe the rebel girl, at least she was actually strong.
Yes...disgust. I bought the first book and thought it was fun, so I bought the next 2 right away. Half way through the 2nd book, I realized that I'd made a huge mistake. I decided to read the last book just to see if the America or Maxon redeemed themselves....they didn’t. The themes in the book appeared to be Obedience- Submission and Subservience particularly in woman. I kept waiting for America to stand up for herself, to tell Maxon to take a hike especially when he’d speak to her like she was his possession… for the record girls, that is NOT romance that’s what a weak, chauvinistic hypocrite sounds like and if any guy talks to you like that dump him!
Please don't let your teens read this---it's the bachelor for young girls and the adult version is bad enough!
The kernel of the story is what I liked…the idea that this girl from a lower cast could become powerful and that she would change history. I loved the first one, and this one started great. But hell, what happened to America? I keep asking myself why I’m reading a book where the lesson seems to be “Be quite, let men walk all over you, don’t think for yourself….and oh, maybe put out a little too and you’ll get the guy.” How can anyone think Maxon is any kind of hero, he such a misogynistic egomaniac. No one seems to question the fact that it’s okay for him to run around making out (or worse) with anyone he wants, but if any of the girls even considers another she’s whipped (or worse). There is absolutely nothing romantic about the relationship between these two….why would America choose this jerk? I already purchased the 3rd book so I can’t decide if I should go ahead and listen to it and hope and pray that Kiera Cass wouldn’t let this book end with America marrying Maxon. Please….tell me that America goes on to lead the rebels to victory and either she ends up with Aspen or she finds someone in the rebel camp even better. If she does end up with Maxon, I’m really sad that young girls out there are reading this crap and think that it’s okay to let anyone treat you like this.
I realize the guy thought his wife was using him in some way, but still he treated her like crap for so long and in so many horrible ways that I could never forgive him, and I couldn't forgive her for being such a doormat. Do people really carry around resentment like this and never say anything? Seems unrealistic. Nonetheless, even when the husband finds out that his wife married him for the right reasons he is still an ass and his excuses don't make it better. I can't believe people think this is romantic.
The story was cute...it just seemed like it was written by an amateur....The dialog was so cheesy and the characters didn't' seem real. I can't put my finger on it but it reminded me a lot of the stories on the fan-fiction sites or on other amateur writing sites.
no....boring book. Well written, but really I could see everything coming a mile away. The end was very unsatisfying and well, it just didn't seem to be a story worth telling.
If you've read recent Jojo Moyes (You before me-AWESOME! or One Plus One), this is NOT like that. Its very well written, but it just doesn't have the solid storyline the others have.
The way Lena gravels! Its embarrassing the woman lets this asshole treat her like a doormat. She really didn't do anything wrong and he acts like she killed his mother! I understand Mason is hurt and all but really can't his sister or friend slap him a few times so he wakes up realizes that he's the one who is a horrible person.
I can't take it much longer, if this Mason dude doesn't stop acting like an ass I am going to have to stop reading.
If you're looking for a good erotica book, this is that. It has a different spin on all of the "billionaire likes S&M and good girl wants to explore" themes out there right now. The setting is unique (Russia) and the back story is believable. My biggest complaint is why are there 3 books...they are so short they could have been 1 book easily! As soon as I finished one I went and bought the next right away...but it seemed ridiculous, each one was only like 3 hours long.
Good characters...believable and real.
Undeniable....but in that book I hated how ridiculous the heroine was...she was a doormat and despite the fact that Raine puts up with more than she should, she's not really a pushover.
Great Biker book, with realistic characters and a great story line. I keep finding myself thinking about these people and wondering what they're up to. I read/listened to 4 or 5 books a month and I don't often think much about them once I'm done so...that's saying something. I even went to see if there was a book 2 but.....beware book 2 is still being written. I hate that! By the time its out I'll have forgotten a lot of the details.
Great Narrator. Fun, easy to listen to. Jojo is one of my new favorite authors. She has very realistic characters, dealing with very relatable problems. You Before Me is still my favorite, but this is great too. The only minor issue I have with Jojo's books is that its a little too PG. But after this I'll go pick up something from the erotica section and all will be well.
