I love Ms. Sparks (though this is my least favorite LaS novel), but I would avoid Ms. Craden. She's awful. Clearly, she can only do one male voice with any decency. And for some reason that I haven't figured out, Vanda sounds like a total chain smoker. Just plain awful.
I'll finish this series, but I probably won't read anything else written by Ms. Day or read by these narrators. There really isn't much of a plot - just moving from one drama to the next. She doesn't have much concept of pacing. I keep thinking she's hinting at some action to come, and every time, she lets me down. I think Ms. Redfield got this job solely on her sex scene voices; the rest of the time she's pretty bland. There's nothing particularly wrong with Mr. York; I just think Gideon's voice should be a bit deeper.
The final scene was fine and showed promise (maybe these two are going to finally start making some healthy decisions). The few chapters up until that had a "much ado about nothing" vibe to me. I couldn't get as worked up over it. I just thinking "Of all the things to lose it on, it's THIS?"
I am so TIRED of Cary and his drama. I have no sympathy for his character since he creates his own problems. I know Ms. Day's trying to create characters that are survivors, but the amount of dysfunctionality and unhealthy behavior exhibited in this book by practically every character is staggering. In the real world, most of these people wouldn't be famous, rich, or have a happy ending.
