To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life — a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescue. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare.

I don't think this story succeeded as a romance or suspense. It fell flat on both attempts. None of the characters were very interesting, not even the dogs. I like Nora Roberts, but NOT this book, it was truly boring.

He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell's deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night---or this man---is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed---a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.

but not nearly as good. I found I wasn't as drawn in by the storyline or the characters in this series as I was in the JR Ward series. It was a little boring and repetitive at times. I probably won't download any more of this series.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

This book was a chore to finish. A thriller? I think not. The only thing this book has going for it is the narrator, who is excellent.

Swan Peak finds Detective Robicheaux far from his New Iberia roots, attempting to relax in the untouched wilderness of rural Montana. He, his wife, and his buddy Clete Purcell have retreated to stay at an old friend's ranch, hoping to spend their days fishing and enjoying their distance from the harsh, gritty landscape of Louisiana post-Katrina.

I love James Lee Burke, but this book was just not up to his other books. I was never able to get into the story and haven't been able to finish it. It was a huge disappointment after listening to "Tin Roof Blow Down". Read the other negative reviews and heed their warnings.

Marty Kalish is a young man suffocating in the heat of an affair with a married woman named Rachel. When Rachel's husband disappears one night, Marty is one of the first to be questioned. With few likely suspects, the police arrest him for murder. We want him to be innocent, but the more he tells us, the more we fear he is guilty. And as the twists and turns of the plot unfold, we can't be completely sure.

Growing up on the mean streets of New York City, Johnny and Mikey always had each other's back. Mikey was a loyal friend, but even he knew that Johnny was headed for bigger things. That's why he dubbed him the "Mayor of Lexington Avenue".

The first half was great. The second half was boring, contrived and full of tired cliches, almost as if it was written by a different author. It could have been a really good book. The narration was enjoyable, Dick Hill is one of my favorites.

  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: The Millennium Trilogy, Book 1

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

Terrific character development, great story! Can't wait for the next book!

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

    Overall

book in the series. I lean towards mysteries, thrillers and contempory fiction, so this book was a pleasant find. I listened to this book based solely on the reviews and I am so glad I did! Thirty some hours flew by and I didn't want it to end. I went to Diana Gabaldon's website and she said the other 5 books in the series should be in audio format by September or October. I can't wait!!

It institutionalizes corruption and arbitrary force, most oppressive to the poorest and weakest people under its sway. Against this backdrop, in an unnamed city by the sea, four people struggle to survive. Dina, Maneck, and two tailors, the Untouchables Om and Ishvar, who are sewing in Dina's service, undergo a series of reversals.
