I really enjoyed the story and listened to it every chance I got. It was exciting for the most part and I really cared what happened to the characters which he occasionally killed off which kept it all the more suspenseful.
I haven't read a book like this for near on 15 years and it reminded me why I loved them so much when I was younger.
It had a bit of a slow start but it made you care about the characters and made me want them to survive. The ending was a little abrupt with an epilogue to tie the story lines in neat bows.
I listened with my husband and it sparked a lot of interesting discussions. None of the concepts where that new to me but I found the bending of science to fit the cultural view very interesting and apt. It was quite focused on the research which I find fascinating but may not suit everyone. I really liked the way they looked at many aspects for hunter gather life and not just sex.
First Vampire novel I have listened too but I have read a lot and this was very average. Not a lot happens, the usual everything that could go wrong goes wrong plot with the main character being used as an 'example' to other new vampires for no real reason. I enjoyed it but wont be getting any more. The romance is very back seat and unimportant, the mystery is almost forgotten until the antagonist starts waving her arms saying look at me look at me and the scary confrontation with the family was a wash out.
Being a mmo nut myself I really got into the story, it was funny and entertaining. The characters where quirky and the reading was great. The only thing I didn't like was the ending, no profit driven company would do that, even it it was best for the 'toons'.
