Suffering from writer's block and frustrated with his tentative relationship with hot but closeted LAPD Homicide Detective Jake Riordan, gay bookseller and mystery writer Adrien English travels to northern California where he finds a body in his front drive. By the time the sheriffs arrive the body has disappeared, and Adrien once again finds himself playing amateur sleuth. But when the game turns deadly, Adrien turns to Jake. Jake may be confused about some things, but keeping his lover alive is not one of them - no matter what the cost.

I enjoyed the first book, I've only got a bit left in this book and just so I wasn't waiting, I snagged the next book! I'll admit that the author isn't as polished as some but it's that unpolished writing that I think makes the story more fulfilling. I've fallen in love with the characters and most times I have to chuckle not a joke but at the portrayal of life - those moments where you say to yourself, "yeah, I'd say that too."

Like the first book, the narration is good though the studio recording seems to feel spliced - sometimes the narrator is loud, other times soft. It's minor but probably my only real complaint.

Do you believe in love at first sight? Paul Auster doesn't. Paul doesn't believe in much at all. He's thirty, slightly overweight, and his best features are his acerbic wit and the color commentary he provides as life passes him by. His closest friends are a two-legged dog named Wheels and a quasibipolar drag queen named Helena Handbasket. He works a dead-end job in a soul-sucking cubicle, and if his grandmother's homophobic parrot insults him one more time, Paul is going to wring its stupid neck.

The only time I have to listen to books is when driving, I can't imagine what other drivers thought as we sit in traffic and they look over to find me laughing so hard at nothing around - one person had to do a double take.

This is a fun, very amusing and unburdened story. I loved the story, the narration is fantastic and one of those tales that you just look forward to hearing about every character. And it's one of those books where you felt satisfied when it ended, neither stuck wishing more existed nor drained like you'd finally finished.

Gay bookseller and reluctant amateur sleuth Adrien English's writing career is suddenly taking off. His first novel, Murder Will Out, has been optioned by notorious Hollywood actor Paul Kane. But when murder makes an appearance at a dinner party, who should be called in but Adrien's former lover, handsome closeted detective Jake Riordan, now a Lieutenant with LAPD - which may just drive Adrien's new boyfriend, sexy UCLA professor Guy Snowden, to commit a murder of his own!

I really love this series, I hope the rest make it to audio sooner rather than later. I enjoy listening to this serious because they aren't difficult to follow or require you have a mastery of the English language. Josh writes in a casual style that allows you to melt into the story instead of sitting on the side line listening in. And Chris does a masterful job of providing a performance yet not getting so wound up trying to over do the acting. And finally, the romance isn't overdone, I'm not left feeling like a just read some teen romance novel, there's just enough "heat" to warm you up and entice you to read on.

I’ve seen several of the movie versions but never read the book itself. I have to say, the book is far better (as usual), and ever so more interesting than what I’ve seen. The writing does, at times, reveal the books true age but it definitely didn’t feel like I was reading some old time fifties horror novel. All in all, a great read and I can see why so many wanted to make their own movie from it....

As the cold returns, sinister forces are massing beyond the protective wall of the kingdom of Winterfell. When this ended, the first thing that came to mind was - thank goodness the prelude was over. I'm not a fan of prelude's in most books because they are distracting and in most cases feel so out-of-blue that you just wonder why was this written.

The whole book felt like it was a prelude, dragging on and on and then on some more. It was a great idea for a story, and the audio version was fantastically read, but it just was so ... I just don't know how to describe it ... lacking in grasp.
