Eff was born a thirteenth child. Her twin brother, Lan, is the seventh son of a seventh son. This means he's supposed to possess amazing talent - and she's supposed to bring only bad things to her family and her town. Undeterred, her family moves to the frontier, where her father will be a professor of magic at a school perilously close to the magical divide that separates settlers from the beasts of the wild. With wit and wonder, Patricia Wrede creates an alternate history of westward expansion that will delight fans of both J. K. Rowling and Laura Ingalls Wilder.

After I read the summary and review and listen to the sample it seems like something I would like to try, but I feel like it was written for a young child. After a few chapters I just had to stop. Save your credits/money.

Two journalists and a beautiful photographer are traveling together in a broken down Jeep while covering the 1975 Ethiopian civil war. Both men fall in love with the woman and that complicates things. When the trio winds up lost in the jungle, in the no man's land between the fighting factions, they take cover and dig in for the night. In their hiding place, they encounter a dying man who tells them an amazing and quite unbelievable story. But for some reason - one that they grapple with for the rest of their journey - that night they believe.

I am a true Fan of Nelson DeMille and Scott Brick and when I heard The Quest was coming out I could not wait even with the delays which made it that much sweeter. Normally I just tell my wife its “DeMille and Brick” and she knows she lost me for the duration. So when I started to listen, I was ready!! But when I fell asleep three times before the first two hours I knew this was not for me. Scott Brick could not save this book. I really was looking for a new book from DeMille since the Panther was not his best work. All I can say is save your credits for the next DeMille book as I wasted mine this time..

In the series of King and Maxwell the narration has been handled extremely well by Ron McLarty. Why did they need to add Orlagh Cassidy for the voice of Maxwell when you are so used to Ron? Well we can get past that if there was some continuity between them. It really sounded like it was done over the phone and the other had to wait the extra second to respond to the previous line.

Love King and Maxwell series, we need more, just have Ron do it by himself!

Charlie Castillo's secret unit has been disbanded - but that doesn't mean he's out of business. As experience has painfully shown him, there are many things the intelligence community can't do, won't do, or doesn't do well, and he has the men and assets to help set things straight.

    "You WILL be disappointed!!"
    Overall

What happened!?! I was so disappointed with this book. I have been in love with the Presidential Agent series, could never wait to see what trouble Charley was going to get into. Dick Hill great narration made Charley and his team come alive. Web’s imagination and twist and turns were fun to guess and try to predict. This book does not follow the past imagination nor does it give you anything new. 85% of this book was a rehash of the entire series and gives nothing new. Every character was brought back, yes as a cameo appearance, it never developed any relationships at all, it would have been better only having some characters and develop their relationships. The book spends more time telling you how to make drinks than it did for the final mission. If I had to hear what SVR stands for one more time I was going to throw my iPod across the room! Did the publisher require a minimum number of words? I cannot put into words how not just disappointed but angry that this “I need to make money” book was written and given to us who have followed this series so faithfully.
Besides the horrible writing the narration was horrible, all the characters sounded the same. With Dick Hill you could here who was talking before it was ever mentioned. But Jonathan Davies just read the book and even sounded that he was bored or even forced to read it. It took me over 2 weeks to listen to this book because I kept falling asleep. Never did I do that on any other of Web’s books. Normally I would not stop listening and be done in 3 days or less.
Please save your money or credits. I am so disappointed that I will no longer get a book by Web or get a book narrated by Jonathan Davies.
