Despite the development of battle clankers and mastery of the crystals that power them, humanity is losing. Tiaan, a lonely crystal worker in a clanker manufactory, is experimenting with an entirely new kind of crystal when she begins to have extraordinary visions.

I saw some very negative reviews and was almost about to pass this one up; however, I'm glad I gave it a shot as the story is creative and could evolve into a great epic.

You can't judge a book by its cover or by the reviews of other audible listeners' reviews!

Peter V. Brett has won accolades from critics, fans and fellow authors alike for this riveting debut novel. The Warded Man features a world where demons stalk the night, hunting humans who have long forgotten the magic of their ancestors. But all is not lost, as some hold out hope that a savior will release humanity from the demons' terrifying reign.

Stretched to his limit, Tamas is relying heavily on his few remaining powder mages, including the embittered Taniel, a brilliant marksman who also happens to be his estranged son, and Adamat, a retired police inspector whose loyalty is being tested by blackmail. But when gods are involved.... Now, as attacks batter them from within and without, the credulous are whispering about omens of death and destruction. Just old peasant legends about the gods waking to walk the earth. No modern educated man believes that sort of thing. But they should....

It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

many other people have been saying that this is like a book in the wheel of time series, and I have to agree in part. however it stands on its own as a great story with good characters and plot twists that for the most part were unexpected.

I cannot wait for book 2 and wish that it didn't have "trilogy " in the title as I could listen to many more books like this.

Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he spends his life willingly, knowing that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children. But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and sprawling parks spread across the planet.

I normally do not like books with musical intros or final closing songs; however this book really dragged me into the story and at the end when that beautiful voice sang the forbidden accompanied with that drum...wow it gave me goose bumps all up and down my arms.

This is a great book and a lot happened in its pages, however I am unsure as to whether the author can complete everything within the next two books as everything I've read indicates that it will be a Trilogy.

In that first volume, we were introduced to the remarkable world of Roshar, a world both alien and magical, where gigantic hurricane-like storms scour the surface every few days and life has adapted accordingly. Roshar is shared by humans and the enigmatic, humanoid Parshendi, with whom they are at war.

Two blind men waited at the end of an era, contemplating the beauty of a good book...

    I could not help myself....

I love this book and I hated it but I imagine it was necessary... I hated the main male Kaladin's moral failings that were a large part of the plot of this book. It felt like such a large recycling of the first book and if this trend continues in the 3rd book I may stop reading.

Probably not I'm an Audible Addict.

I highly recommend these books (1&2&WOT) I love how well Michael Kramer and Kate Reading work together and hope that they can continue on through the whole cycle....Brandon Sanderson better write faster and stop with his 15 other side projects of they may retire before he completes the last book.

One hundred years before Ender's Game, the aliens arrived on Earth with fire and death. Earth Afire by Orson Scott Card and Aaron Johnston is the story of the First Formic War. Victor Delgado beat the alien ship to Earth, but just barely. Not soon enough to convince skeptical governments that there was a threat. They didn’t believe that until space stations and ships and colonies went up in sudden flame. And when that happened, only Mazer Rackham and the Mobile Operations Police could move fast enough to meet the threat.

Sad that Orson Scot Card didn't finish the book in a single go, and didn't feel like part one did enough to be a good stand alone book in its own right. Perhaps it would have been better without as many characters, most have hardly any ties to the enders game novel.

One of the great classics of world literature and the inspiration for the most beloved stage musical of all time, Les Misérables is legendary author Victor Hugo’s masterpiece. This extraordinary English version by renowned translator Julie Rose captures all the majesty and brilliance of Hugo’s work. Here is the timeless story of the quintessential hunted man—Jean Valjean—and the injustices, violence, and social inequalities that torment him.

A great story lies hidden within this book; however, it is diminished by all the long winded introductions and explanations on histories of Napoleon, Paris Sewers, Barricade Warfare....etc....etc....etc...

While I hate reading and/or listening to abridged copies of books, this one needs about 3-4 hours of material removed to keep the story flowing better.

I can't wait for the movie hopefully Hollywood does it justice.

  • The Gunslinger: The Dark Tower I

Eerie, dreamlike, set in a world that is weirdly related to our own, The Gunslinger introduces Roland Deschain of Gilead, of In-World that was, as he pursues his enigmatic antagonist to the mountains that separate the desert from the Western Sea in the first volume of The Dark Tower series. Roland, the last gunslinger, is a solitary figure, perhaps accursed, who with a strange single-mindedness traverses an exhausted, almost timeless landscape of good and evil.

Would you listen to The Gunslinger again? Why?

I have read this book 4 times and the complete series 3 times. It's an epic journey and the fact that it took Stephen King so long to complete the series makes it even better. RE-reading this after completing the rest of the series you can gain an even better appreciation of just how deep the story is.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Gunslinger?

    The coming of age.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love Mr Guidall's voice he gives all the characters so much personality.

If you could take any character from The Gunslinger out to dinner, who would it be and why?

The man in black... Of course! I He knows how to have a good time.

    Any additional comments?

Looking forward to the next book that Stephen King is adding to the series.

Dubbed the American Tolkien by Time magazine, George R. R. Martin has earned international acclaim for his monumental cycle of epic fantasy. Now the number-one New York Times best-selling author delivers the fifth book in his spellbinding landmark series - as both familiar faces and surprising new forces vie for a foothold in a fragmented empire.

Story was 50 hours of worthless trash that probably could have been written in 20 and been a better book.

AND FOR 2 CREDITS IT’S A RIPOFF!!!!! I WANT 1 OF MY CREDITS BACK.

Honestly if I had known that the series were to the crap like this I’d have never have picked up his 1st book.
