When a casino robbery in Atlantic City goes horribly awry, the man who orchestrated it is obliged to call in a favor from someone who's occasionally called Jack. While it's doubtful that anyone knows his actual name or anything at all about his true identity, or even if he's still alive, he's in his mid-30s and lives completely off the grid, a criminal's criminal who does entirely as he pleases and is almost impossible to get in touch with.

I liked the detail about the subject matter of theft (at a high-end) skilled level

.Parts were a bit too grizzly!

The tough guy the "hero" is.Kinda like a "Jack Reach" type of guy.

Hero is smart and knows how to fight.

I initially listened to this book a couple of years ago. Second time thru is still good.

You will probably like Lee Child's books if you like this one.

Foundling begins the journey of Rossamund, a boy with a girl's name, who is about to begin a dangerous life in the service of the Emperor. What starts as a simple journey is threatened by encounters with monsters - and people, who may be worse.

Good story for adults and 11 yrs old and up.

Perfect book for "family time" or on a road trips.

The feel after listening to it is the happy glow you have walking out of a movie theater watching a happy movie.

While this is a book that will suck you into the series, it ends a good place to feel it was complete.

NOTE:I do recommend using wireless Bluetooth speakers for listing to audio books instead of ear buds (connected to smart phone). Speakers are better for preventing hearing loss vs earbuds. And this is possibly the solution for a family listen to a audio book together.

This was quite a solid story. Not a book with just 'fluff'. It has complexity that is not found in young adult reads.

It is somewhat like the book "A Game of Thrones" or "Pillars of the Earth". It has villains, subplots, complexity, bad things that happen to good people...

Some other books of depth and quality readers who liked this book might also enjoy are:

    "The Power of One"
    "The Sea Wolf"
    "A Prayer for Owen Meany"

Lots of Action with a long budding romance.

This book as an excellent plot.

If you loved this young adult book and want one similar that has strong plot and romance I recommend you read:

    Bloody Jack by L.A. Meyer
    Frederica by Georgette Heyer
    Lorna Doone

If you are looking for an action series with page turning plots for family and young adults.
    Circle of Reign

This is one of the BEST BOOK that I have ever listened to!

Not so much because of the performance but because of the plot.

I am amazed that this book published in 1869 had such moving impact as story in these modern times.

The plot was totally unpredictable right to the very end. Having some foreknowledge of the story via a movie was more of a problem for me because the story was so different and contains much more substance.

    I highly recommend this book.

Loved the part of the story how our 'hero' meets his girl and the interaction he has with other characters. The starting of the book reminds me what I loved in the book "The Eye of the World", I like teen interaction, at an age where the guys don't quite know how to talk to girls.

I wish the story had more romance with the girls and the guys.

I wanted: more more more character development of the girls in the story. BUT, this would have made the story much longer. I guess this would have required the story to be split into a second book.

This book ties in with "Circle of Reign" which is set in the future. I highly recommend reading "Circle of Reign".

While you are waiting for new books from Jacob Cooper try "Eye of the World" which is read by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading (love these two reader's performance of characters).

Some newly published and exciting books that will keep your attention try:

    "The Thought Readers"
    "Eye of the Moonrat"
"A Crucible of Souls" sets foundation for sequel "Blood of Innocents"

If you'd like a break from the "Epic Fantasy Genre" try:
"Bloody Jack" - Young Adult book with lots of Action and Romance in a historical setting.

Love the quality of Jacob Cooper's writing, no vulgarity, and is Young Adult (YA) safe.

    Totally enjoyed this book!

I was engrossed from the beginning wanting to know what would happen next. The narrator is excellent. While the vocabulary was suited to the younger readers there was enough sophistication to be enjoyed by adults.

    The story is long.

The foundation set in this first book of the series introduces numerous characters for later books with a variety of subplots.

The closet book similar to this is the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.

If you liked this book I recommend that you will also like

If you'd like a books that are more for older readers and are gripping/scarier/darker:

    "Blood Song"

    "The Shadow of the Torturer"

Excellent Story grabbed my attention and stopped me from multitasking while I was listening to this story....

I highly recommend this book!!!! Perfect for for family and adults!

The story was complete enough in the ending and did not leave me totally hanging requiring the purchase of the next book (although I will read this entire series).

Great Plot. Adventure. A new book to go among my favorite Epic Fantasy genre books.

Next book of this series due in mid December according to best guess of the author.

While you are waiting for the next book of series to be released I recommend the following books:

"The Eye of the World" - closest to this series that I know of. Adventure, Magic, Teens.
"The Iron Trial" - Like a Harry Potter book, Middle School to adult
"The Name of the Wind" - simply a fantastic series. A favorite of mine.
    "Sabriel" Middle School to adult
"Circle of Reign" - Action, Action, Action ...
    "The Way of Kings"
    "The Final Empire"
    "Imager"
    "Harbinger"
"The Warded Man" (a bit darker and scarier book)
"A Game of Thrones" Adult read.
"Red Rising " kinda like "The Hunger Games"

    "The Godling Chronicles"
    "Jaunten"
    "Jhereg"
    "Assassin's Apprentice"
    "Enchantress"
    "Thief's Magic"
"Poison Study" female lead, lite young adult romace

Everyone thinks I'm a genius. Everyone is wrong. Sure, I finished Harvard at eighteen and now make crazy money at a hedge fund. But that's not because I'm unusually smart or hard-working. It's because I cheat. You see, I have a unique ability. I can go outside time into my own personal version of reality - the place I call - "the Quiet" - where I can explore my surroundings while the rest of the world stands still.I thought I was the only one who could do this - until I met her.

This book sucked me in right from the start and I listened to the book in a day.

Loved the 'hero' and the chasing after the pretty girl....

The reading style I assume was 'as directed' with the more of a monotone inner voice of the 'hero'. The narration was just average and did not not take anything about from the story. I would be happy to listen to this reader throughout the series.

My only complaint is the book is about 1/3 the length I would have liked.

I would have started the second book of the series if it was available on Audible today. The Title is "The Thought Pushers".

If you are looking for other fast paced books on Audible I recommend the following:
"The Iron Trial" for a bit younger reader. Like "Harry Potter Series"
"Red Rising" - Like "The Hunger games"
    "Circle of Reign"
    "The Hunter from the Woods"
"Beat the Reaper" A thriller with a grizzly ending. Not for very young readers.
"Cold City: A Repairman Jack" More of targeted for adult or male readers (I would guess).

I abandoned listening to this book on the first try because it did not hold my attention.

I have over 4,000 audio books and I was looking for more pure action and to be riveted right from the start.

After listening to "Cold City: A Repairman Jack Novel" the "Repairman Jack: Early Years" series I had a better foundation on the character.

LOVED this book on my second try. Story is a bit of a run-away train building speed.

To get the most out of this book listen to "Repairman Jack: Early Years", it is good.

If you like this book you might also like to try:
"The Cabinet of Curiosities" the 'Pendergast' series does not need to be read in any order.

"Fear Nothing" and other books by Dean Koontz.
