Young Prince Gaborn of Mystarria is traveling in disguise on a journey to ask for the hand of the lovely Princess Iome of Sylvarresta. Armed with his gifts of strength and perception, the prince and his bodyguard stop at a local tavern, where they spot a pair of assassins who have their sights set on Princess Iome's father. As they race to warn the king, they realize that more than the royal family is at risk - the very fate of the Earth is in jeopardy.

Lore says: "A world of interesting magics and moral choices."
    "Excellent Fantasy Series!"
    Overall

Exceptionally good book! Magic, romance, and characters that you love and others that love to hate.

It has been awhile for me to find a new series that is similar to and as good as the "Wheel of Time series" by Robert Jordan. Like the "Wheel of Time series", I am totally engrossed, sitting on the edge-of-my-seat listening. The plot is very interesting. Also, the book is up-beat (most of the time anyway). But, like George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series there are some tragedies.

NARRATION: The narrator reads the Prolog in a way that seems too overacting, but after that his style of reading changes and I enjoyed listening.

At this point, I have commited to purchasing books 2 thru 4. Book two, I downloaded. Books 3 and 4 are not available on Audible(at this time), so I ordered them 'used' from Amazon.

Owen Wister’s The Virginian pre-dates the classic novels of Zane Grey and Max Brand and is considered by many to be the original Western. Dedicated to Wister’s friend and fellow outdoorsman Theodore Roosevelt, this timeless tale almost single-handedly established the cowboy archetype in literature. A quiet, noble foreman of a Wyoming cattle ranch in the 1870s, the Virginian falls for pretty schoolteacher Molly Wood. But when a rival suitor challenges his honor, the Virginian struggles to make his beloved Molly understand the harsh justice of the West.

    A Powerful romance.

A lot is lost in understanding due to the culture shift of language and understanding of how people spoke at this time (1902) and just understanding every day environment of horses, ranches, terms of the day.

My grandfather lived 1884 to 1984 and spoke the same way. I watch "The Virginian" TV shows with my grandfather & family... Picked this book up quite randomly... Such a gem of a book.

I also highly recommend the following books:
    Lonesome Dove
Old Yeller - YOu'll cry when your read this one....
    Shane

Note: Shane and Old Yeller are great for younger readers in that they are short books.

Student glass magician Opal Cowan's newfound ability to steal a magician's powers makes her too powerful. Ordered to house arrest by the Council, Opal dares defy them, traveling to the Moon Clan's lands in search of Ulrick, the man she thinks she loves. Thinks because another man - now her prisoner - claims Ulrick's desire for blood magic has eclipsed his passion for her.

The attraction to this book is the strong female character.

Fantasy genre books for young girls is very important. Ones which shows the "heroine" having independent thought and self direction.

No explicit sex scenes, but main character is fine with casual sex with various men.
So, I classify this book for adults 18+, but the gook is targeted at 11 and 12 yr old girl readers..

Regardless, the plot progresses pretty slowly and the reader does not help.

In light of so many other better books choices, this one is a waste of time.

I liked the detail about the subject matter of theft (at a high-end) skilled level

.Parts were a bit too grizzly!

The tough guy the "hero" is.Kinda like a "Jack Reach" type of guy.

Hero is smart and knows how to fight.

I initially listened to this book a couple of years ago. Second time thru is still good.

You will probably like Lee Child's books if you like this one.

The story of what happened to Flashman, the caddish bully of Tom Brown's Schooldays, after he was expelled in drunken disgrace from Rugby school in the late 1830s. This is the first of George Macdonald Fraser's hilarious satires starring Harry Paget Flashman.

If you ever read books of this genre like the Sharpe's Rifles Series or The Horatio Hornblower Series the hero is so "Grand", but Flashman in this book is the anti-hero.

So funny even though it has dark shocking humor.

It is like a tabloid talk show, total trash.

I continued to read it is to see what the jerk (Flashman) will do next.

Very discussing, vulgar. Like a loud fart in a quite church.

    Definitely "guy" humor only!

A Magic Broken is a tale of ruthlessness, courage and deceit. The novella tells the story of Captain Nicolas du Mere, an exile fleeing the death of his rebel lord, and Lodi, son of Dunmorin, a brave dwarf dedicated to rescuing his fellow dwarves from slavery. Their dangerous paths meet, but in a manner that is anything but predictable.

Book barely get going and ends.

Obvious a book was split in to 1 third or less of normal length to make a trilogy.

I recommend you get a real epic fantasy bool like "Eye of the World" ...etc.. so many books which are a better value than this one.
