The idealized childhood of this fictional hero, based on Mark Twain's own early life, is filled with robust good humor and high-spirited adventures. Yet there is also an in-depth experience of the central South of the 1840s. While romping through fun-filled fantasy, Tom Sawyer shows how morally complicated real life can be.

Both this selection and Huckleberry Finn, read by Patrick Frawley are unbelivably excellent and the best selections I have purchased in the past year since signing up with Audible. Patrick Frawley makes the books come alive. He does each character so individually that you'd believe different people were reading each part. Mark Twain would be real proud to hear this interpretation of his wonderful story.

In the spring of 1974, Calliope Stephanides, a student at a girls' school in Grosse Pointe, finds herself drawn to a chain-smoking, strawberry-blonde classmate with a gift for acting. The passion that furtively develops between them - along with Callie's failure to develop physically - leads Callie to suspect that she is not like other girls. In fact, she is not really a girl at all.

I enjoyed, and actually looked forward to my daily commute so I could listen to the next installment. Middlesex covers so many different topics and was thought provoking, educational and interesting. The narrator does a wonderful job of telling this wonderful story.

It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. Certainly the last person in town he thought he'd fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town's Baptist minister. Then a twist of fate made Jamie his partner for the homecoming dance, and Landon Carter's life would never be the same.

This is one of the nicest stories that I have ever heard or read. The fact that the author read it made the story more enjoyable. He has a very pleasant, soothing voice. Usually biblical references in books are awkward for me. I am not of the same religious faith, nor am I religious at all. This story touched me in a way that very many others have not. It is not a demanding story on the listener/reader, but causes you to examine the way things happen and why.

One of the greatest treats in all world literature, this masterpiece from Mark Twain inspired a literary revolution. The novel offers both brilliant humor and tragedy as Huck and Jim explore the moral dilemmas of slavery and freedom. Huck, the narrator, is shrewd, ingenious, and literal; he reports on everything he sees, which allows the listener to experience the hypocrisy of "sivilization".
