Another Great Day at Sea, by Geoff Dyer
It has nothing to do with who the narrator was
It has nothing to do with the character, just the topic
I liked the weaving of real historical events along with fictional people and stories into this fictional history of the Sarajevo Hagaddah, and how the author tied them to the little snippets of clues found in the Hagaddah itself.
I did not like the present-day unbelievable and pretentious story centered on Hannah, including her relationship with the curator of the museum and with her mother, as well as undeveloped and stereotyped side-stories of her Viennese teacher and the ex-Mossad Israeli.
I would have eliminated much of the present-day plot unless it pertained to the actual investigation of the Hagaddah.
