No fictional character is more renowned for his powers of thought and observation than Sherlock Holmes. But is his extraordinary intellect merely a gift of fiction, or can we learn to cultivate these abilities ourselves, to improve our lives at work and at home? We can, says psychologist and journalist Maria Konnikova, and in Mastermind she shows us how. Beginning with the "brain attic", Konnikova unpacks the mental strategies that lead to clearer thinking and deeper insights.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The casting of the reader was horrible… It's not the narrators fault, I've heard her read other books that were much more appropriate for her voice and style, but for this book she might have been reading 'My Little Pony' and it just didn't suit the content.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It was nice to revisit some of the Sherlock Holmes plots.

    Any additional comments?

They should re-record this book with a different, more appropriate narrator, because as is, it's just simply too hard to get past her tone. Also, prepare for a great deal of Watson-bashing.
