I'm a high school teacher and bought this to sue with my class. I don't find the commentary distracting but helpful. My students quickly figured out that when a particular voice was talking that was explanation. Also, there is a version of the play without any commentary in the file as well.
This book was sometimes predictable and unrealistic, but was entertaining. I like to listen to books in my car, and listening to this one made me look forward to running errands.
I really liked this Jodi Picoult novel. I have never read The Green Mile, so I don't know if the plot being too similar is true, but it was a great read. All of Picoult's novels, including this one, show that there is never a black and white opinion on anything important, in this case the death penalty.
