For a 2,000-year-old Druid, Atticus O’Sullivan is a pretty fast runner. Good thing, because he’s being chased by not one but two goddesses of the hunt - Artemis and Diana - for messing with one of their own. Dodging their slings and arrows, Atticus, Granuaile, and his wolfhound Oberon are making a mad dash across modern-day Europe to seek help from a friend of the Tuatha Dé Danann. His usual magical option of shifting planes is blocked, so instead of playing hide-and-seek, the game plan is...run like hell.

After the last several years Atticus has left a trail of pissed of gods. He has a whole pantheon of gods determined to end his long life. It's no fun being chased by the hounds and huntresses.
Atticus, Oberon and Granuelle run across a continent trying to escape the wrath of the gods.

Only a handful of people in the world know that mankind's magic comes from a living creature, and it is a refugee from another universe. The Power showed up here in the 1850s because it was running from something. Now it is 1933, and the Power's hiding place has been discovered by a killer. It is a predator that eats magic and leaves destroyed worlds in its wake. Earth is next. Former private eye Jake Sullivan knows the score. The problem is, hardly anyone believes him.

Book three finalizes the Grimnoir Chronicles. It is another action packed ride. We find out how magic really works in this alternate reality of earth and why Faye is such a bad ass magic user. It is a satisfying conclusion to the story. But, we can hope for more in the future from Larry in this fascinating world.

Dark fantasy goes hardboiled in Book II of the hard-hitting Grimnoir Chronicles by the New York Times best-selling creator of Monster Hunter International. The Grimnoir Society’s mission is to protect people with magic, and they’ve done so—successfully and in secret—since the mysterious arrival of the Power in the 1850s, but when a magical assassin makes an attempt on the life of President Franklin Roosevelt, the crime is pinned on the Grimnoir.

Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

I had a hard time getting into this book at first. But, being a die hard Larry Correia fan I gave it a second listen and I really started enjoying it.
It is a very different story the his Monster Hunter International series. I think that was why I didn't get into it at first, but I an very glad I came back to it.
This is the first alternate reality book I have read / listened to.
Larry has created a very unique magical system for this world. If you like magic, zepplins, monsters and guns then give the Grimnoir Chronicles a listen.

But on the eve of the ritual, the world that thought he was dead abruptly discovers that he’s still alive, and they would much rather he return to the grave. Having no other choice, Atticus, his trusted Irish wolfhound, Oberon, and Granuaile travel to the base of Mount Olympus, where the Roman god Bacchus is anxious to take his sworn revenge - but he’ll have to get in line behind an ancient vampire, a band of dark elves, and an old god of mischief.

Druid Atticus O’Sullivan hasn’t stayed alive for more than two millennia without a fair bit of Celtic cunning. So when vengeful thunder gods come Norse by Southwest looking for payback, Atticus, with a little help from the Navajo trickster god Coyote, lets them think that they’ve chopped up his body in the Arizona desert. But the mischievous Coyote is not above a little sleight of paw, and Atticus soon finds that he’s been duped into battling bloodthirsty desert shape-shifters called skinwalkers.

When he’s not vanquishing villainous gods or dodging demons, 2,000-year-old Druid Atticus O’Sullivan can be found behind the counter of Third Eye Books and Herbs in modern-day Tempe, Arizona, literally minding his own business. But when an evil sorcerer - and amateur shoplifter - snatches an ancient Egyptian tome of black magic, The Grimoire of the Lamb, Atticus is not sheepish about pursuing him to the ends of the earth...or at least to the Land of the Pharaohs.

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

What does Luke Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

At first I didnt like the way he read Atticus, but as the story went on I grew more comfortable with him and I now wouldn't want any one else to read the Iron Druid.

    Any additional comments?

This is the first book in the series. It is a new twist to the story of an Irish Druid Atticus O'Sullivan. He is the last druid in the world and he is 2100 years old. Don't ask how he can be that old, you will have to read the story for that answer.
Being the world's last druid has its perks and pitfalls. Follow along as Atticus cuts and binds his way though 2000 years of trouble.

What did you like best about this story?

    The introduction of Management.

What does Oliver Wyman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Again Wyman is great at all the character voices and inflections. He is a great story teller. You know who is talking without him having to say who it is.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes.

    Any additional comments?

The fourth book in the series and the story arc is going strong. We get to see some old friends from the first two books and meet some new members of the monster hunter community. We also see a new villain surfacing that we only saw a glimpse of in Alpha. This is a must have addition to your MHI Collection. I have both versions (printed and audio) of all four books.
