I nearly turned this audio off in the first few minutes. I found the narrator's "mechanical" voice so irritating. I managed to tough it out to the end however. But I wouldn't recommend it. There are just too many really great audios read by truly talented narrators. Why waste the time?

If you want a good listen, try this one. Jeaniene Frost offers an intelligent new spin on the usual vampire story and Tavia Gilbert does a great job narrating. I enjoyed the first book so much I just bought books II and III which is saying a lot about how much I enjoyed the first book in the series and wanted the fun to continue.

In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

This story begins two centuries after the end of the Pillars of the Earth. I thought that it was just as enjoyable. For those that did not want the original story to end any more than I did, this is a must read for you. Although the original characters are obviously dead, their descendants carry on their legacy.

This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

A captivating story about unforgettable experiences in an exotic land albeit a bit depressing at times, but nonetheless remarkable. Gregory David Robert’s offers very intimate views that Humphrey Bower narrates beautifully.

I have never been to India and am likely not to, however the mention of that country will be forever accompanied by the memories I will have of this book.

Ken Follett's World Without End was a global phenomenon, a work of grand historical sweep beloved by millions of readers and acclaimed by critics. Fall of Giants is his magnificent new historical epic. The first novel in The Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they move through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women's suffrage.

Ken Follett is a genius but FALL OF GIANTS is not a choice favorite.
So many of his other books have been so enjoyable there was little reason to think this one would be different. However, if it had not been for his wonderfully entertaining characters (as always) I do not think I could have made it to the end. For those of you that find war history more engaging this one is for you.

This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage is a very real love story, and one that is much more about the journey than the destination.

I enjoyed the depiction of Africa from a non-native growing up there. The writing is beautifully poetic at times but the characters forgettable, the story line weak, and the narration lacking. I had to force myself to listen until the end.

I found DEAD UNTIL DARK captivatingly funny, sinister, mysterious and with the right amount of sex and violence. After listening to this, the first of many in Charlaine Harris's series, I can't wait to read more.

Harris reminds me of Janet Evanovich but a lot less nutty. This is worth noting since Harris's characters are other worldly and yet have more substance.

I recommend this as a fun read to anyone.

The brassy babe in the powder blue Buick has been given the unpopular task of finding Mo Bedemier, Trenton's most beloved citizen, arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, gone no-show for his court appearance. I have read this book and enjoyed it very much, so I thought that I would purchase an audio of it. Unfortunately the choice in narrator took so much away from it that I stopped listening after the first 20 minutes. I was very disappointed with C. J. Critt. However, I may purchase the latest audio narratoed by Janet Evanovich herself.

In 1866 tragedy strikes at the exclusive Windfield School when a mysterious accident takes the life of a student. Among the student's circle of friends are Hugh Pilaster; Hugh's older cousin Edward, dissolute heir to the Pilaster banking fortune; and Micky Miranda, the handsome son of a brutal South American oligarchy. The death and its aftermath begin the spiraling circle of treachery that will span three decades and entwine many lives.

Although I have to say that Michael Page does not do this story justice, especially with his too fast speech in the beginning, it was still a very enjoyable listen. Similar to other Ken Follett stories, with its twists and turns, conspiracy, murder, and sensual scenes, I have loved them all. I just wish he would stick with Jason Lee as his narrator--by far my favorite!

Keller possesses all the qualities of a professional killer. He's cool, confident, reclusive, icy, and ruthlessly efficient. But this seasoned hit man is also prone to self-doubt as he finds himself caught in the clutches of a mid-life crisis.

    Story

I have no idea what a real hit man's life is really like but the author creates a believable character and the masculine matter-of-fact voice of Robert Forster is perfect for the part.

Block's hit-man is surprisingly likable. He doesn't particularly enjoy killing but it provides him a good living and he is good at it despite that he is forever on call. He can't reveal what he does or predict how long he will be gone. A girlfriend would ask too many questions, so he has no hope of ever having a wife or family. The fact that this guy is actually murdering people for a living becomes far less significant than how he deals with his life as a result of what he does.

I love the way that Lawrence Block got me wrapped up in his main characters head. I will be looking for more of his work.
