Surely sometimes it is all beyond my comprehension but I still find it all so fascinating. That us humans have the mind and the curiosity to sit down and figure all this out. Thousands of people with their different skills in imagination, mathematics, logic and more have been drawn to try to make sense of what it is we see when we look up into the sky, day or night. I look up and I am in awe mostly. Though now after reading this book the awe is both what I see and now what I know. The story is very well told and so much information is packed into this one book. It is all so amazing. This is also a book I will and have already listen to over and over again. Each time I seem to understand more.
Einstein's Cosmos: How Albert Einstein's Vision Transformed Our Understanding of Space and Time: Great Discoveries
This is another great book which to me brings Einstein's genius to light so much so you are amazed that the human race was able to bring into existence such a brilliant thinker. What a special gift he was to all of us. (Though this is a personal comment and is not in the book, to think that the ignorance and hate of Nazi Germany would have killed a man such as Einstein is to me a terrible thought.)
He is amazing with his narration. His tone is fairly neutral and he is able to present some very complicated ideas in a voice that makes you almost see it. It is somewhat of a long book over 10 hours and if his reading wasn't just perfect it would have ruined the experience, but of course just the opposite happens. Though not everyone agrees with me, and maybe it is my laziness, but I so enjoy lying on my bed in comfort and be able to just listen to such wonderful writings as done by the author and read by Brad Smith. Truly a joy of our modern day society. I find this so with audio. I believe it allows for my "self" to relax and take in what it being said in a way reading the book or watching a video doesn't allow to happen. I can just float in my imagination and enjoy!
In a sense surely one has a certain feeling of joy when you hear of someone's success after so great an effort and then of course the opposite happens when you see a great effort and focus on finding a solution and failure is the end result. Even worse is finding a solution and have your fellow humans punish you for being brilliant. Surely science history is man at his best trying to understand and make sense of what he/she is experiencing. Another good reason to listen to the book for it not only helps you learn it also helps you experience the greatness of humans at trying to satisfy our curiosity.
I strongly suggest you download the PDF that comes with the book. It has many drawings that make what the point that the author is trying to make easier to comprehend. There are also many interesting pictures that I found helpful and inspiring.
Sure it is as corny as any romantic story could be, and that is why it works! The characters are great the plot is good love is eventually everywhere. It is sweet and there isn't cliff hanger after cliff hanger so I never got so nervous I couldn't finish the book.
Just a great HS story which would never happen in my HS and time period. It has a great many characters that I ended carrying about. I love the author.
Being gay myself a lot of what happens in this book has happened to me or surely I have such thoughts, especially when I was a teenager. The story is about being gay and fearing the hatred and bullying that it can attract. It is also seeing into what makes people who they are. How to measure the real beauty of each other. It is easy to be attracted to external beauty, but as we all know that is only skin deep. Knowing the kindness of others, their ability to love, is "true beauty" I feel and surely what I look for in others. This is a great story but it has eternal truths that we all need to remember and practice.
One might feel that the subject could be somewhat dry, but the author makes it so much fun I feel mainly because I kept learning so much and finding connections to the human condition that I guess I never really connected before. The author has a website, where there are some videos of him talking about the book. The narrator was excellent and was easy to listen to and added I felt a great deal to the listening enjoyment.
It is also a book that I will enjoy listening to several times over. I know that each listening I will have more insight into what the author was trying to convey.
This is essentially a story about 3 men and their struggles with life and society they find themselves in and their need for love. I found for some reason this book a little hard to get into at first. Maybe it was the narrator's accent, which once you get into it I realized instead of being a reason not to listen to the book it was one of the reason to listen it. I just loved the author's descriptions of the land, the culture and the struggle the characters are all going through in their lives. Survival is surely a prominent emotion here.
The book is just full of emotion, but it is not the type of emotions that made me cry, but the emotions that make you know that you are alive, though life is a struggle, that struggle has meaning and raw power, a hidden purpose. As a gay romance, this one is surely different. It is powerful and it is a story once you get into it you want to pursue it, because you soon understand the truth that each man is being driven by and I at least had to honor that truth by witnessing it.
It soon became a book I could not stop listening to but at the same time it grieved me knowing that soon it would be over and then once that happened the three men I learned to love and care for would be gone from my life. Surely a book I will listen to again and again and each time gain a little more insight of what the author is trying to express to me, the listener.
To me this story honors the magical love that only men can feel between each other. The power and the joy of it. Passion is everywhere in this story and it carried me along, almost making me addicted to it. I have this same passion deep within me and that passion has surely kept me alive and allowed me to endure pain and lost in my life that I felt I never could survive. This story to me spoke to my own passions, and thus honored my life struggles in doing so.
It goes down pretty easy. I have just finished reading a couple of other coming out stories involving some real heart break situations. This story comes up to the cliff and it looks as the characters are going to have to jump off but the author surprises you with the humanitarian response. It truly a nice ride and the two boys are just too cute.
So if you enjoy coming out highschool stories but want to laugh a little and maybe learn to believe they all don't end up with someone cutting their wrist then this is the story for you.
This was a great story with a British accent. I thought it dealt well around the issues of a young man realizing he was gay. Then dealing with telling family and then public. It still amazing how so many people are still dealing with their issues homophbia. Love between two people is what it is all about and we surely need more love in this world no matter where or who it is all about.
I guess I am surprised on how much I have enjoyed this book and the author's writing. The characters are real and I have found myself wanting to know them even more. This is the second book, I enjoyed the first so much I went and bought this one right away. Surely the narration was a good part of why I enjoyed this book, it is excellent, and one that I look forward to with each of her books now! It is truly not light listening, but it isn't my usual book of science and mathematics, so it was a great break from my normal interest, one that I enjoyed.
Unfortunately I have attempted to either listen or read books like this, and found them just a disappointment, so when I found this such a well written book, great characters and such wonderful narration, I was very pleased with myself for trying the first one.
So if you like murder, ghosts, psychic and the paranormal, though the main character doesn't like the term "psychic", a story that weaves in and out of people lives, their motivations, their emotions and fears, then this is a good book to listen to, I believe. I am surely looking for more.
This book for me was just pure fun. The writing was great, it really allowed me to view life from the point of view of a young boy again, and the narration was perfect.
It also shows that life really never changes. The problems and issues that this young boy has to deal with are simply replaced by more adult themes as we get older.
This is a fun, and funny book, which allowed me to laugh and escape from my adult life and issues for a few hours. I totally enjoyed the time away from my reality.
The actual story was great but instead of exploring and developing it, the author puts a lot of love making. Now I am not against all of that, but I was more interested in the story line. Just when it started getting interesting everyone would stop of make love. I mean it was really a joke after a while.
Take a lot of the love making out of it and put in character development and development of the plot.
There was a lot going on in this book. The author had decided to make it much more than your basic romance. I was surprised by how it all played out, but I feel the author, or the editor decided that this was a love making book instead of a adventure/romance. The book could've been much longer and spent a great deal more time developing characters and scenes, things I would of really gotten into and enjoyed. I am afraid that instead it was treated by everyone that it had to be a typical "gay" romance, with a lot of love making scenes and not that much development of the story. From that point of view this story was a complete disappointment.
