I found this to be a very interesting study of the history of the times. There were some facts I certainly did not know and the presentation made the characters very real. I was not aware of this legend and I like the fact that it may very well be based in truth!
I absolutely loved this book, from start to finish. I thought it was so well written, right from the start, that it kept my attention every minute. I have lived in rural areas for so long I could have known these families, understood their loyalties and values and respected their sense of honor in life. There is a tough pride that has come from doing things that had to be done, without complaining, with a simple acceptance of life and death that is a rare thing in our modern society. I found myself cheering Velva Jean on, wishing for her dreams to come true.
This is truly my favorite Longmire book so far ! The Indian spirituality and explainations
are incredible and Walt's determination to follow through when he knows his path make this book impossible to walk away from. I found myself completely absorbed in the story and George Guidall is the only one who could possibly do it justice.
I will be through with the series soon and I fear the loss I will feel! I hope Craig Johnson is writing like crazy to keep us supplied with these amazing books!
I listened to Aunt Dimity's Death years ago and loved it. Thank heaven I heard it with a different reader. This narrator is just dreadful. Her inflection is all wrong and leaves me feeling like she is reading to a small child. I doubt I will listen to the rest of the series because of her. She just ruins a wonderful novel.
I loved the idea of the story, liked the characters, but I found this not to my liking in listening. It seemed over-dramatized, too much effort went in to making it scary. As an audio, this would never work for children in my opinion
There is no way you can keep from liking Harold. He has faults like all of us, but he just tries so hard to do the right thing. His adventure had me thinking how I would react to the same difficult or enjoyable circumstances and his determination to make the journey is a rare thing. It was a long listen, but worth it.
I had no idea what to expect when starting this book, but upon finishing it this afternoon I must say this has been an adventure like no other. It feels like a trip back in time to view lives presented in such a realistic and dramatic way, I was left feeling like an exhausted time traveler! There was shocking information that I take to be truth, because of the lessons of history taught to me in school, but so realistic I felt an immediate kinship with the poor people both in England and Van Diemans land. I will have to listen to this again to be sure, like looking at a painting, to appreciate things I did not see the first time.
This work is truly a gift to all of us.
In the continuing adventures of our Emily, this is as much fun as all the others.
All in all, it sounded a lot like some of the disasters we all get to live with from time to time! Then to have it bloom into a great, busy story line was a bonus. I enjoyed it very much.
This was much more complicated that I thought it would be, which made it very entertaining. The characters are complex and the situations were unexpected enough to keep me guessing. All in all, a lot of fun!
I grew up in a big city during the very time period this book speaks to. I found it true to the times and very very entertaining. Offered with respect to the characters and a clear vision of the issues, I would suggest this to anyone.
