I was okay with the ending. It was rather a typical middle book.
The fact that things didn't turn out how you'd expect. I can't really say more than that without ruining something.
What bothered me the most is how Saba started using people. It does make sense to me though, that she is confused and has some depression issues after the events of the previous book.
I bought the kindle book and returned the audio. It was terrible. The narrator lisped, paused very awkwardly and just generally didn't put any emotion into his voice. I also couldn't tell who was talking because the voices all blended together.
I listened to it on fast just to get it over with. The characters weren't at all believable to me. Also, yeah, you figure out who done it pretty quick. I think Nora just fell off my auto buy list.
yes! Claire Danes was enthralling.
"I am laughing"
She *was* Offred. She was perfect. Understated and beaten but not destroyed.
it could happen
Mr. Penumbra himself.
the way backlist
Adds desperation and he delivers the irony perfectly!
when is a bookstore just a bookstore?
It has a bit of a Courtney Milan feel to it, in that the characters are uncomfortable with rank and actually work.
The performance was rather bland. It's possible that it's just that I don't like Anne Flosnik's voice. She has a low, almost grating, tone that just bothers me.
I liked that the heroine's values were more liberated, and I loved the resolution.
all of it
I wanted her signature back! I noticed a little banter that was her and the last chapter. Beyond that there was no connection for me at all.
She quoted on of my favorite Connie Brockway scenes. "You are my Egypt" is a truly fabulous, romantic scene.
I didn't love the bondage thing but I get she wants her audience happy. I just wish the characters were more... real. The whole situation seemed forced to me and the control issue was simply demeaning.
I've loved Garth Nix for years. When I saw this fabulous coming-of-age story was narrated by Tim Curry, I did a happy dance. I was not disappointed. The story is still awesome and Mr. Curry's performance is phenomenal. Check out Lirael and Abhorsen, too!
Heather Lind was amazing. Different vioces different tones and her 'western' accent was perfect. I'm so glad this book was made into audio because I never would have had the patience to read it as written. The book itself was good- good plot great characters great description. Heather Lind gave a flawless performace and I am very eagerly awaiting her next work.
