I listen to a lot of audio books and love to read. ..Especially good zombie apocalypse fiction! I find that a good narrator is the key!

  • So You Want to Be a Wizard: Young Wizard Series, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Diane Duane
    • Narrated By Christina Moore
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Because she insists on fighting with words instead of her fists, 13-year-old Nita is regularly tormented by a gang of classmates. One day, running to escape their blows, she hides in the only safe place nearby: the library. When a book about wizardry catches her eye, Nita finds the help she needs in its pages. As she moves from chapter to chapter, Nita learns more sophisticated spells. Soon, stepping through a worldgate, she enters a shadowy city swirling with vicious taxicabs and carnivorous fireplugs.

Diana says: "Not quite Harry Potter ... better"
    "Excellent listening!"

I am 29 years old and I loved this book! The narration is excellent and brings this wonderful series to life. Diane Duane's "The Young Wizards" series ranked 4th in a recent online article about books that are better than the Harry Potter series.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

    Magpie says: "Super solid listen!!"
"Should be made into a film!!!"
If you could sum up 14 in three words, what would they be?

    Secrets, Scooby-Doo, Purposes

Who was your favorite character and why?

The whole cast of characters in this book are great! I couldn't narrow it down to just one person.

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

How every character has a uniqueness and a realism to them.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

A roof top discussion over cold beer between a younger man and an older man...

    Any additional comments?

I will never look at any building the same way again!

Melinda says: "Hang On To Your Shorts!"
"Joe Ledger Continues To Kick Butt and Take Names!"
Where does Assassin's Code rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

As far as this series goes, it remains as good as the first book.

What did you like best about this story?

The continuity of the story arcs and character development.

Which character – as performed by Ray Porter – was your favorite?

    Joe Ledger.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was on pins and needles near the end of the book, when the Captain had to deal with more losses.

    Any additional comments?

Maberry and Porter are like Rowling and Richard Harris or Burton and Depp. You will not be disappointed in listening.

  • Throne of the Crescent Moon

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 16 mins)
    • By Saladin Ahmed
    • Narrated By Phil Gigante
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The Crescent Moon Kingdoms, home to djenn and ghuls, holy warriors and heretics, are at the boiling point of a power struggle between the iron-fisted Khalif and the mysterious master thief known as the Falcon Prince. In the midst of this brewing rebellion a series of brutal supernatural murders strikes at the heart of the Kingdoms. It is up to a handful of heroes to learn the truth behind these killings: Doctor Adoulla Makhslood, Raseed bas Raseed, Adoulla’s young assistant, and Zamia Badawi, Protector of the Band.

Samuel Montgomery-Blinn says: "A welcome new voice in fantasy, read with aplomb"
    "Simply Enchanting!!!!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Throne of the Crescent Moon to be better than the print version?

What was one of the most memorable moments of Throne of the Crescent Moon?

I enjoyed the way the narrator made the conversations between characters REAL, not just lines of dialogue.

Have you listened to any of Phil Gigante’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I will in the future!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It gripped me like very few audiobooks have. I felt like I was sitting at the feet of a master story-teller. I felt the emotions of the characters, laughed at the banter between them and held my breath at the end of a chapter.

  • The Time Traveler's Wife

    • ABRIDGED (12 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By Audrey Niffenegger
    • Narrated By Maggi-Meg Reed, Christopher Burns

Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six. They were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry was thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future.

Herve Bronnimann says: "My Favorite Audiobook so far"
"A wonderful and moving love story!"

This book changed my life! From the opening 30 minutes, I felt what it was like to fall in love at first sight! The author carries the theme of how much Henry loves his wife throughout the entire book with tenderness and a rich, descriptive narrative that really makes the listener feel for these characters. What I loved most was how real the conversations are between Henry and Claire. You feel you are with them in every moment. It is an emotional roller-coaster of a ride that makes you smile, laugh, cry, hope, and despair all at once. The narrators capture the essences of the characters perfectly. I could not stop listening to this recording. It has made me appreciate each moment of life and the joy of sharing those moments with the one I love. "The Time Traveler's Wife" captures what it is to love another person at every stage of a relationship from start to finish, if loving someone has limits, that is. Especially touching is Henry's letter to Claire. Read this book! It will change your life and the way you look at those around you.
