I haven't tasted chocolate for over ten years and now I'm walking down the street unwrapping a Kit Kat. Remember when Kate Moss said, 'Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels'? She's wrong: chocolate does. At the age of 32, after ten years of hiding from the truth, Emma Woolf finally decided it was time to face the biggest challenge of her life. Addicted to hunger, exercise and control, she was juggling a full-blown eating disorder with a successful career, functioning on an apple a day.

What did you love best about An Apple a Day?

How honest the author is. I enjoyed her voice as well, though it does have a "sticky" quality that grates after a while.

What other book might you compare An Apple a Day to and why?

Biting Anorexia - they are both candid diary type stories about the struggle back to health.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When she was describing her own fascination with Posh spice. Who wouldn't identify with her thoughts on the glamorous supermom persona Posh has adopted. Also, how she describes her and Tom's trip across the western states of the US. To see America from the point of view of an an eating disordered English woman was interesting.

    Any additional comments?

It is obvious from the author's point of view that she was still firmly in the grips of anorexia while writing this. Some of her interpretations of situations or other people's advise show a deep need to hang on to her disease. I came to really root for her though, and will surely listen to it again.

After knowing friends with anorexia and being baffled by their behavior, Laura Moisin suddenly found herself prone to the same disease - not eating at all and going weeks at a time consuming nothing but water and the occasional black coffee. Deceiving therapists by misleading them with symptoms of depression, her anorexia is prolonged, and her health deteriorates rapidly.

Would you try another book from Laura Moisin and/or Arielle DeLisle?

    No

Has Kid Rex turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I have read many books relating to eating disorders. This was just a bad one.

How could the performance have been better?

Maybe the book would have been better if read. The narrator had a young whiny voice that made the litany of complaints the author was spewing all the more irritating.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Kid Rex?

Oh god, she MUST have known someone to have gotten this pushed through.

    Any additional comments?

I am angry with this "author". Not for being anorexic, but for her attitude toward every single person that has tried to help her. She is very fortunate to have the opportunity to attend a wonderful college and have her own apartment. To see doctor after doctor (though she lied to them all and then got mad at them for their incompetence). She had her choice between Renfrew and Remuda Ranch but had nothing but petty, childish complaints to report. If you want to listen to a privilaged whiny girl complain about just about everything, this is the book for you. I also have a feeling that she grossly exagerated her condition. Ex. She stated that for years, she had nothing but one glass of water per day. This is not possible. She would have collapsed from dehydration at the very least. She desperately tries to show how smart she is by using unnecessarily large words and pretentious phrases. I know authors have the right to embelish but it has to be believeable. Don't waste your time.

Insatiable is an astonishingly moving story of four teenage girls whose shame, fear and confusion compel them to binge, purge and refuse to eat in misguided attempts to feel safe and in control of their lives.

What did you like best about Insatiable? What did you like least?

Entertaining, but that's just because I will read anything pertaining to ana. It was childish, but I believe meant to be so, good for Jr. High students.

Would you ever listen to anything by Eve Eliot again?

No, I don't believe so. Just not for me.

What didn’t you like about Eliza Foss’s performance?

It was ok. Not annoying or anything, but her voice sounded like a middle aged woman rather than the pre-teens the book was actually about.

Do you think Insatiable needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

There is a follow-up book. Since it apparently doesn't deal w/ eating disorders I will not be listning to it.

    Any additional comments?

This was an entertaining listen. Not compelling or even theraputic but I enjoyed it. It is however, TRIGGERING. I think it's meant to do the opposite, deter kids from all types of eating disorders but frequently these things go the other way. I am 36 yrs old, but would not allow my teen to listen to this. Would just give her ideas. It was rather funny (in the way of "The Best Little Girl In the World") how ingenious the therapist was. She managed to instantly cure all who came to see her. Wouldn't be surprised if the author works in that field.

In this searing, unflinchingly honest book, Portia de Rossi captures the complex emotional truth of what it is like when food, weight, and body image take priority over every other human impulse or action. She recounts the elaborate rituals around eating that came to dominate hours of every day, from keeping her daily calorie intake below 300 to eating precisely measured amounts of food out of specific bowls and only with certain utensils. When this wasn’t enough, she resorted to purging and compulsive physical exercise, driving her body and spirit to the breaking point.

    Overall

This book did nothing for me except to show what a silly, spoiled, vain girl Portia is. The whining just got to me. I realize that she was probably quite sick, but if she weren't so paranoid and if she thought about anything other than her appearance, it probably would not have gotten to that point. I have an eating disorder, and if I was given 1/10th of the beauty, opportunities, money, love, or family that she has in her life I'm sure I would be cured!

I was very disappointed with the last few books, and from reading the reviews of this one I wasn't very optimistic. While it wasn't her greatest work, I think this one was a bit better. I think you may enjoy it, so long as you don't expect too much.

His own soul is up for grabs. Dresden must dig deep to discover that at time a willingness to accept a little help from your friends, be they a cub pack of werewolves, old loves in sheep's clothing, or a battalion of pizza loving dewdrop fairies, is a very good thing.

I enjoy these books, however the narrator sometimes sounds like he REALLY needs a glass of water. I can hear all of his sticky mouth noises. It's quite distracting. I am glad that the new book will have some new blood!

Unlike many other readers, I actually really enjoy the sex scenes. Gave me some ideas (wink wink). I do really miss the mystery and suspense of the earlier Blake books. I am holdng out hope that L.K.H. will find a nice balance of the two in her newer books.

No one in Twin Oaks knows about the risky deal Kaitlin Wells cut with the Feds for her release. But everyone remembers her scandalous arrest for stealing money from the Mercury Bank. Now, three years later, Kat has come home to catch the real thieves and prove her innocence. Trouble is, some powerful folks don't want her digging up the past...or getting friendly with new sheriff Justin Radner. But some laws can't be ignored, like white-hot attraction.

This book was pretty good. Not great, but entertaining. My only complaint is regardng the love scenes. I didn't like how the author kept calling the leading man's "guy part" by it's anatomically correct name, a p---s. It was kind of silly and awkward. Not really sexy at all. I kept flinching. Otherwise a nice story, good narrator.
