Absolutely. The man is worth understanding. He's fascinating, charismatic, and to some extent indicative of us all (in the sense that he didn't restrain his emotions so he's like the uncensored version of most people). His pain, passion, and drive are clear. It is a moving story.
On a negative note, I didn't find the author's writing style particularly compelling or well done, but neither does it get in the way. The story, the substance of the book itself, is well worth your time. (Some parts of the book may be a little dry for some people as it heads into the technical aspects for somewhat extended periods of times.)
Steve - for obvious reasons.
