After a near-fatal head injury, Navy SEAL lieutenant Tom Paoletti catches a terrifying glimpse of an international terrorist in his New England hometown. When he calls for help, the Navy dismisses the danger as injury-induced imaginings. In a desperate effort to prevent disaster, Tom creates his own makeshift counterterrorist team, assembling his most loyal officers, two elderly war veterans, a couple of misfit teenagers, and Dr. Kelly Ashton - the sweet girl next door who has grown into a remarkable woman.

    "Could have been better"
    Overall

The story was not horrible. The reading was horrible. I'll never listen to another book by this reader. He was overdramatic and his character voices set my teeth on edge. I had to turn the volume down during certain parts, such as the tedious fantasy sex parts. Too bad Audible doesn't have a way to fast forward the parts that are too tedious. I'm not a prude but those parts could have been deleted and it would have been a much better listen, especially the way he read them. Still, I did listen to the whole thing, except when the volume was turned down.

I had a hard time with this story. I hate to hear stories of animals being abused. The first chapter was so tedious that I almost stopped the book, but I went on to the second and it got better. The narration of the dog telling his own story helped me through the parts of the dog fighting that I found so heartbreaking. This is one of those stories that, once you get started, it is hard to turn off. I cried, but I listened to the ending three times. A feel good book.

This was a well written and read story about a very sad subject. It was not told in a way that was too dramatic and I'm glad I listened.

This New York Times best-seller is the astonishing life story of award-winning humanitarian Ayaan Hirsi Ali. A deeply respected advocate for free speech and women's rights, Hirsi Ali also lives under armed protection because of her outspoken criticism of the Islamic faith in which she was raised.

    "Hard to understand"
    Overall

I'm sure it is a great story but the author/reader's accent makes it hard to listen to. I finally put it away. I'll try again but it was very frustrating. Too bad she couldn't have paid a professional to read it.

For those who saw the movie and loved it, this story will not disappoint. It is not the same story as the movie but it is just as good. I'm not really into science fiction but I loved this. Well read and good story.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

    "The Help"
    Overall

This was a wonderful book. It is well written and the reading (voices) of each character was almost perfect.
When I was growing up we would never see a black person in our neighborhood except for the help. If we did it was looked upon with suspicion. This brought back many memories of how it was and I'm amazed at how far we have come in my lifetime.
    Really, a good listen.
