Read this book when it first came out many years ago, so this was like brand new to me I really didn't remember much of the story. I enjoyed it then, I loved it now, history, romance, mystery has it all. The characters are wonderful, I lived in the North for many years and now in the South for many years and I can tell you everyone tells a different story about the war depending on where you live - North or South. Just started Book 2 and it's just as good.
This is a wonderful book, it's a book that should be required reading for all school age children to show them how BAD war is. The last 30 minutes I listened to it with tears in my eyes, you just get so close to the characters that you see them, feel them, you are them. Enjoy the book, even though it might make you sad it's wonderful. The name you see is Alfred but this is MJ Al's wife who listens to and reviews the books, so this is from a female's point of view about war, men might think differently about it.
As I said, to many words, this book would have been better if it was 400 pages and not 700, 20 hours or less not 32. It just goes on and on and on. By the time I was at 20 hours I just kept thinking when is it going to end, to many words, to many descriptions and repeats itself to many times. I loved the story, the reader was wonderful no complaint there., If you have lots of time, listen to this book, it will hold your interest but to long. I can see why Donna Tartt only gets a book out every ten years it takes her forever to get all of those words down on paper. I did like the story line but it really had to be shorter.
I really didn't think I would enjoy it, the beginning kind of freaked me out, it was so strange and a few times I just wanted to say "oh the heck with it" but then you get to a certain part and it gets to you, it's another really good Stephen King story just like the good old days. I enjoyed it, loved knowing what happens to Danny. It's a story that really had to be written since so many of us really wanted to know what happened to Danny and his mom. Thank you Mr. King for enjoyable hours of listening to this book, awaiting the next one of course, you are back in the groove once again.
Loved the book, and the main reason is of course John Grisham, but Michael Beck is an A+ reader, his voices are just right on the head he does them beautifully, you can just see the person he is doing. This will of course make another good movie if it follows the story line, I truly enjoyed it.
Don't really know if I liked this book or not, story line was good, Amy is really an awful person but so is Nick, they DESERVE each other. Won't give away the ending but I didn't like it. It certainly keeps you guessing as to what is happening and what will happen next, but I just couldn't really get deep into it.
Suspensful, Entertaining, Great, it's always worth the wait for her books, everyone of them has been just teriffic.
Like the history, love hearing about the past and then going back to the present.
She just wants to make you keep listening, a super reader.
Can't wait for her next book
To me yes, since he did the accents so well.
Loved that it took place in places that I know.
All of them, he's just great
Would have loved to, but who has the time
Love anything by Pat Conroy.
First, I'm really glad that I listened to this book, it took a while for me to get interested in it, there were parts that were at first boring & confusing to me but I stuck with it, and in the end glad that I did. In the beginning I had no idea where this story was going, why did we need all of this "boring" info, that's what I thought but you really do need it and then when the book is done you realize that it really wasn't boring. So in a nutshell I truly think it was a very enjoyable story, learned things that I never knew and actually never thought about, give it a try, stick with it, good book.
Enjoyed this book very much, liked it because it had some history in it, how things were in the South when slavery was a way of life. Enjoyed the parts when slavery had ended to actually find out that it was still very difficult for the free slaves. Amazing what our country went through to get us where we are today. The reader was EXCELLENT!!
