This book is the story of what happened to Lucy Bennett and several other girls whose addictions got the best of them. It provides answers for Will Trent, one of the main characters and an agent with the GBI who is fairly conflicted throughout the book. Overall it's a sad story with an ending that resolves everything, but leaves one feeling somewhat disappointed. This was my first Karin Slaughter book, and I'm not sure I'll listen to another one.

Lisa Jackson's novels of romance and suspense race up the best-seller charts. In Left to Die, the Pinewood County Sheriff 's Department is on the trail of a cold-blooded killer who acts as a savior to women stranded during terrible mountain snowstorms before stripping them of their dignity and leaving them to die, a victim of the elements. But the killer's latest victim managed to escape, leading some to believe there may now be an imposter on the loose.

Would you try another book from Lisa Jackson and/or Alan Nebelthau?

Lisa Jackson - Yes. Alan Nebelthau - NO

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator doesn't pause appropriately and goes directly from one part of the story to another without even taking a breath. It's very difficult to follow and I was constantly going back to figure out what I missed. Because I had to keep going back, the story seemed like it didn't flow well and was disjointed. But I think that was mostly due to the narrator.

    Any additional comments?

I was curious about the rest of the books in this series; however, it's the same narrator. I think I'll skip them.

I had difficulty initially getting into the story. It was action packed and fairly unbelievable, but I did finish it and it had an okay resolution. It follows the actions of a secret group of government assassins and "problem solvers", even when some of them go off the reservation.

Lady Georgiana Rannoch is a minor royal whose family is short on funds. While she has a place to live, she has no money. Georgie is trying to make her own way doing some basic cleaning on the down low while trying to keep up appearances. While the Queen requests Georgie's help in hosting a Bavarian princess, Georgie finds herself in the midst of ominous conspiracies and dead bodies. She has some friends who help her along the way as well as a delightful grandfather and his neighbor.

Overall, the book is a fun listen, part historical fiction, part comedy, and part mystery. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Sherlock Holmes is the greatest detective in literary history. For the first time since the death of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a new Holmes story has been sanctioned by his estate, whetting the appetites of fans everywhere. Information about the book will be revealed as deliberately as Holmes himself would unravel a knotty case, but bestselling novelist and Holmes expert Anthony Horowitz is sure to bring a compelling, atmospheric story to life.

Intriguing and well written, but I didn't like the way the story went at the end. Without totally spoiling it, the plot involves crimes against children. I'm looking for entertainment and it ended up being a downer for me, not entertaining. If I had known what the book was all about, I would not have selected this book.

I like Anthony Horowitz and he did well with the characters. Holmes and Watson were both in line with their historical literary characters. I just wish he'd written about a different crime.

Georgie, aka Lady Victoria Georgiana Charlotte Eugenie, cousin of King George V of England, is penniless and trying to survive on her own as an ordinary person in London in 1932. So far she has managed to light a fire and boil an egg... She's gate-crashed a wedding... She's making money by secretly cleaning houses... And she's been asked to spy for Her Majesty the Queen.

    Any additional comments?

Lady Georgiana is a minor royal (34th in line for the throne) whose family has cut off her allowance. She is over the age where she should have been married off and leaves the family castle to stay in their home in London by herself. She has to learn to take care of herself building fires and light housekeeping, but decides she needs some way to earn money and starts her own cleaning service - as long as the Queen doesn't get wind of it.

The Queen also has a "job" for her, spying on the Prince and his latest paramour. In the midst of all this, she finds an unpleasant man dead in her bathtub and has to go about proving her brothers innocence while finding the actual killer. Georgie has a knack for finding trouble and while she is lovely and charming, she is unfortunately maladroit.

Overall a fun story and good performance. It was excellent at keeping me entertained while driving and doing housework.

I was hesitant to start this book. It was recommended to me by my mother in law and I just didn't see us enjoying the same kind of book. I was wrong.

The main character Amelia Peabody is a riot! She is bright, practical, straightforward, confident, and sarcastic. I was laughing on a regular basis while listening.

I loved the mystery as well as the characters. Can't wait to start book 2.

The narrator did a fantastic job, with a different voice for each character.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not recommend this book to a friend. It was SO slow starting. I kept looking up the title to see if I had started the right book. There was an overabundance of background information given that really had nothing to do with the plot. I wondered if I would make it past that part, but because I was laying tile and had thinset on my hands, I just let it run.

After it got past the beginning, it was okay, not outstanding, and unfortunately doesn't make up for the boredom at the beginning.

The Chief Inspector is a likeable character who is unassuming and bright. He does his job well. His wife is also a good character. The Finney family is not at all likeable as characters and their interactions and behavior is ridiculous. I know families behave badly towards each other, but their reasons for their behavior are far too unbelievable. The motive behind the crime is hard to believe which weakens the entire story.

The author does a great job describing the setting, but doesn't do as well with the story. She drops little tiny bits of information with follow up quite a long time later creating confusion more than interest.
