In this talk, given at the Riverside Church in New York, Eckhart addresses some topics of vital importance. He speaks of the burden of the self and how we become trapped in an exclusively personal sense of identity that becomes a virtual prison. He shows that it is the transcendent dimension that offers freedom from the self. What is the transcendent dimension and how do we access it? Eckhart defines it conceptually and, more importantly, shows us how to experience it for ourselves.

If you haven't read the Power of now and the new earth you will feel lost. If you have, it's a good listen, but not my favorite.

  • The Cow in the Parking Lot: A Zen Approach to Overcoming Anger

Imagine you're circling a crowded parking lot. Just as you spot a space, another driver races ahead and takes it. In a world of road rage, domestic violence, and professionally angry TV and radio commentators, your likely response is anger, even fury. Now imagine that instead of another driver, a cow has lumbered into that parking space and settled down. Your anger dissolves into bemusement. What has changed? Not just the occupant of the space but your perspective on the situation.

He doesn't get to the heart of it. Anger is just an emotion, you need to be the witness and the book lacks that teaching. I don't think it should be labeled Zen. That said its a good starter book, but honestly not one I would recommend as a self help or spiritual guide.

Fifteen years after his number-one New York Times best seller, Ageless Body, Timeless Mind, Deepak Chopra revisits "the forgotten miracle" - the body's infinite capacity for change and renewal. You cannot take advantage of this miracle, Chopra says, unless you are willing to completely reinvent your body, transforming it from a material object to a dynamic, flowing process.

So far I haven't read anyone who can mix science and spirituality like DC. I gave it 4 stars overall (wish I could go 4.5) because it wasn't a book I could listen to long. Some stuff required rewinding a couple times, but I still enjoyed the journey.

The theme of this four-day retreat: "It's Always Now" The Now is inseparable from who you are at the deepest level. It is the prerequisite of Being. As you listen to the words on this tape, you participate in the retreat. To "retreat" means to step back - not only from the outer world, but also from the world in your head, the thinking mind. Allow the sound of the words to take you beyond words and beyond sound to the stillness within.

Fantastic if you follow Tolle, but I think it would leave you confused or mystified if you hadn't read his books. If you have then it another fantastic adventure.

I liked the book, but since I've read so many of these I felt like it fell in the self help category rather than spiritual awaking. It was lacking the true essence of awakening. Books like "the power of now" or "the new earth" teach it different. They teach it through mindlessness. I would give this book to someone who didn't believe they had voices in their head. This book is really good at teaching you to realize that, but I felt at the end it was lacking or maybe that's the best thing about it, makes people want to know more.

This book is really slow, but that's the point, to slow the mind, to awaken the stillness inside you. I wouldn't buy this book as your first Eckhart Tolle book. As always Eckhart doesn't disappoint.

Practicing the Power of Now is a carefully arranged series of excerpts from the The Power of Now that directly gives us those exercises and keys. Return to those words, reflect on the words, reflect even on the space between the words and - maybe over time, maybe immediately - you'll discover something of life-changing significance.

This is a great book to use as a refresher for the power of now or as a introduction. If this is your first Eckhart Tolle book then I think it is a great book to see if your ready for his teachings. You will either feel the desire to know more or you will not. If you want to jump in head first then read, the power of now first and use this as a refresher.

To make the journey into The Power of Now you need to leave your analytical mind and its false created self, the ego, behind. Access to the Now is everywhere - in the body, the silence, and the space all around you. These are the keys to enter a state of inner peace.

Read before a new earth. A new earth is my favorite, but they compliment each other. If you have trouble listening to him, you may want to set it aside because you are not ready and it would be a shame to not try again. Set it aside and try again the moment you are ready.

Humanity now, perhaps more than in any previous time, has an opportunity to create a new, saner, more loving world. This will involve a radical inner leap from the current egoic consciousness to an entirely new one. In illuminating the nature of this shift in consciousness, Tolle describes in detail how our current ego-based state of consciousness operates. Then gently, and in very practical terms, he leads us into this new consciousness. We will come to experience who we truly are and learn to live and breathe freely.

Anyone who has trouble with his speaking and dealing with the ego has missed the point and you may not be ready for this book. I spend my time being a mother, wife and I also compete at sports for a living, so ego and pain bodies are all around me all the time. If you start to get stumped listen to the woman's story (chapter 6 start part two) over and over. You will get a moment of enlightenment if you are ready. When I start to feel like I am fighting the ego or other peoples I listen to this. Fighting is just adding another layer. You also need to remind yourself that compulsive thinking is an addiction and it's not going to go away instantly, sorry life is not that easy. I would recommend reading the power of now. This book is my favorite, but I wouldn't have been able to absorb it as easily without the power of now.
