I'm a big Laurell K Hamilton fan and I love the series but I did a lot of eye rolling with this one and wasn't disappointed when it was over like I usually am.
Pro- Lot's of Edward, he really makes a story POP, I love when he's in it.
Con- The whole book is stretched out about zombies and Anita being a Necromancer,(BUT she never does anything with her necromancy!) I even kinda liked the whole going with the fad of the zombie apocalypse but it was done poorly. For the main, incredibly annoying fact that she NEVER uses her powers. The whole book it's like if Superman decided to only act like a sex crazed Clark Kent against the bad guys.. and then the last page of the book oh ya... I'm a necromancer so I guess I'll just lower my shields and poof fix everything in one paragraph that took a whole book to talk about.. jeez.. That was the worst ending ever.
The book would have been MUCH better with her using her powers throughout the book and the character interplay with that, not just the cops not liking her because she has sex with no many men *eye roll*
I am a religious person, born again christian who has alot of the same views on a coming collapse as mister Rawles... however, that being said. this is without a doubt the worst book i have ever listened to/read. i have noticed in this post apocalypse/emp/societal colapse/zombie genre, some of the authors are using the books to play out their own little fantasies about what a bad ass they wish they had been in real life, kinda got that impression from Rawles in his first book where the lead protagonist is some super bad ass soldier (oh wait he's a accounting analyst before the crunch? yet he tells a former force recon marine "good job that's how a recon should be done" no kidding geek boy, that's what he was TRAINED TO DO... like a pencil pushing computer geek would have a clue to be able to say good job).... how believeble is that. go on your little security patrol trips with your "group" all you want, if your a computer geek, TSHTF doesnt make you rambo all of a sudden... back to founders, the story on this is absolutely incredibly indescribably horrible, almost to the point of painful, i had read all the bad reviews but told myself that many of them had to do with the religon and alot of people probably are not christians that read it so that is how i explained it away.
Big mistake.... please read the reviews, even if you are a fan of Rawles, wait till his next book. maybe it will be better, don't waste your money!
i would honestly like to have an open line of communication with mister Rawles as some of the things he mentions in his book and seems to endorse are pretty much directly against the christian faith to the point i wonder if he really is a christian or just playing one for the sales?
And no i am not talking about the action and violence i am no pacifist, in fact this book was sorely lacking on the action side.
And as far as the religion goes, it was well sprinkled in Patriots and Survivors. but DRENCHED in Founders. i feel more books should be written like Patriots putting a positive light on christians since society in general tends to beat us up on a regular basis, but come on Rawles, if you want to write a book on your view and studies of differing religious doctrine, please do so, i may even read it, as i enjoy studying many different views. but just spouting random thoughts and excerpts from your own studies and trying to form a story that fits around them does not a good book make. Based on your charecters in the books interaction with each, other one has to wonder if you have ever even met and listened to people before. people dont talk that way! period..... and oh ya by the way not everyone with a tattoo is a gang banging criminal rapist......... and not only super pious uber religious people will survive the collapse to be "the good guys" so when it comes don't just randomly shoot people who arent carrying a King James please...
P.S mister Rawles..... write a book detailing the keen brothers adventure from Patriots..... but do better than you did with this one.
